40 years of Lernidee and countless journeys, ideas and memories along the way. 🚆⚓🚲

It all began in Berlin in 1986 with an unusual idea: combining language learning with a journey on the Trans-Siberian Railway. Four decades later, Lernidee Erlebnisreisen GmbH has grown into a specialist for extraordinary rail, cruise and e-bike journeys around the world.

A lot has changed since those early days. New destinations have been added, our own trains and boutique ships have taken travellers to some of the world’s most fascinating places, and many new ideas have become real voyages. But one thing has remained at the heart of what we do: creating travel experiences where the journey itself is just as memorable as the destination.

Our 40th anniversary film offers a glimpse into our story, our passion for extraordinary travel and the people who have helped shape Lernidee over the past four decades.

October in Luang Prabang comes with a little extra magic. 🩵

During the traditional Fire Boat Festival, Boun Lai Heua Fai, the UNESCO-listed town is transformed by thousands of lanterns and candles. Colourful illuminated boats are carried through the streets before being launched onto the Mekong – one of Laos’ most atmospheric cultural celebrations.

For travellers, it is a wonderful time to experience Luang Prabang beyond its famous temples: stroll through the illuminated old town, watch the sunset over the Mekong, browse local handicrafts at the Night Market, discover regional cuisine and gain an insight into traditions such as the morning alms-giving ceremony.
