Germany's autumn school holidays are under way, and airports are filling up with travelers, suitcases, and carry-ons.

But some cargo simply won't fit in the overhead compartment. An aircraft engine, for example. Maindeck capacity comes in handy in this case.😉

Connecting continents, changing lives: Three extraordinary animal journeys

At Lufthansa Cargo, transporting live animals is part of our daily business. Every shipment receives the same high standards of care, expertise, and attention. Yet some transports are particularly special because they help give animals a second chance, support conservation efforts, or bring species together for the future.

Over the past few weeks, we have transported a variety of animals around the world on behalf of our trusted customers and partners:

🦁 A new beginning for BenTzur and Ori
After being rescued from illegal captivity in Israel, young lions BenTzur and Ori embarked on a life-changing journey to the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary in South Africa. Together with wildlife authorities, Animal Defenders International, and Bivas Bros Ltd., we helped give them a second chance and a safe place to call home.

🐾 Flynn the red panda heads to Scotland
Flynn traveled from Neuwied Zoo via Frankfurt to Edinburgh Zoo, where he joins an international conservation program. A new companion was already waiting to welcome him to his new home. Thanks to AnimalLogistics FRA GmbH for yet another animal journey we completed together.

🐯 Nine tigers, one extraordinary mission
Together with Intermodal Logistics, we flew nine tigers rescued by global animal welfare organisation FOUR PAWS from the former Zoo Luján in Argentina to South Africa. At the Lionsrock Big Cat Sanctuary and Lodge, a new chapter of lifelong care and protection has begun.

For our customers, trust is everything. We are proud that they continue to rely on our expertise in live animal transportation and on our global network, specialized handling capabilities, and experienced teams. All animals spent their transit in our Animal Lounge in Frankfurt.

More than 30 Stations of Lufthansa Cargo „Run Around the World“ for a good cause 🌍🏃

What an incredible journey! As our global charity running event, also locally known as the Bürostadtlauf comes to an end, we are deeply grateful for the overwhelming support shown by colleagues, customers, partners, friends, and communities around the world.

Together, we proved that every step can make a difference. Through sport, commitment, and teamwork, we supported Cargo Human Care and its Vocational Training Center project while bringing people together across borders and cultures.

The impact at a glance
This year's event exceeded all expectations:
• 2,568 participants registered worldwide
• 95 Heroes went the extra mile and participated in all categories
• Participants ran in 53 countries across the globe
• More than 30 Lufthansa Cargo stations organized local running events

These impressive numbers reflect a shared commitment to making a positive impact and demonstrate the strength of our global cargo community.

A heartfelt Thank You 🙏
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who made this initiative such a remarkable success. Our gratitude goes to every participant who laced up their running shoes and joined the cause, as well as to our many sponsors and supporters for their generous contributions. We are especially thankful to Lufthansa Cargo and SWISS World Cargo for enabling the inspiring "Run Around The World" initiative, and to our Executive Boards for matching the registration fees.

We would like to recognize all our partner and customer companies who joined us, especially Courier Network (CNW), whose outstanding commitment resulted in more than 600 registrations. Our sincere thanks also go to the team in Nairobi for organizing a wonderful event together with the children of Mothers' Mercy Home, and to the Ricarda-Huch School Dreieich, where more than 150 students participated in support of young people in Kenya.

Together, we ran for something bigger than ourselves. We built connections, created opportunities, and contributed to a meaningful cause. ✨

🐅 A tiger’s tale: From war-torn Ukraine to South African skies

Last month, we had the privilege of transporting Mir, a rescued tiger, from Brussels via Frankfurt to his new home in South Africa.

Mir’s story is one of resilience. Once kept as a pet in a private garden in Ukraine, he was left behind when his owner was forced to flee the country because of the war. In April 2023, Mir was brought to the Wild Animal Rescue Center near Kyiv, where dedicated teams cared for him under increasingly difficult conditions. Harsh winters, power shortages, and extreme cold made the situation even more challenging.

When Belgium’s Natuurhulpcentrum Opglabbeek Oudsbergen learned about Mir’s situation, they immediately stepped in to help. The center specializes in the rescue and temporary care of exotic animals, providing expert treatment and a safe environment until a long-term home can be found. Over the years, it has built both the infrastructure and expertise needed to give animals like Mir a second chance.

That second chance was ultimately found thousands of kilometers away at the Isindile Big Cat & Predator Sanctuary in South Africa. There, Mir can finally begin a new chapter surrounded by expert care, wide space, and the conditions he deserves.

We are proud to have been chosen for Mir’s journey to Africa. During his transit, he stayed at our Animal Lounge in Frankfurt, where animals receive professional care in a safe and calm environment – whether they are arriving, departing, or connecting to their next destination.

Our colleagues were deeply moved by his story. As he departed for South Africa on LH572, they sent him off with heartfelt wishes for the future.

Some journeys continue long after landing. ✈️
Lufthansa is giving selected Airbus A380 Business Class seats a second life by auctioning them via eBay Charity. The seats come from the world’s largest passenger aircraft, the A380 “Munich”, which travelled the world for many years and logged more than 46,700 flight hours.
All proceeds will support the work of help alliance and Cargo Human Care | Wir verändern Leben | Kenia 🇰🇪 helping create education and career opportunities for young people around the world. 🌍

🌎 🧑‍🎨 When art travels the world, trust matters.
In 2024, the collection of the Museum Berggruen travelled the world. Read more in our transport story on our website.

This year, we are proud to have been chosen once again to transport these modern masterworks – this time across the Atlantic to the United States.
The exhibition opened on May 20, and art lovers can now experience “Picasso–Klee–Matisse: Masterpieces from the Museum Berggruen” at The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. The exhibition offers a rare U.S. debut of an important German collection, featuring more than 95 paintings, watercolors, drawings, and sculptures on loan from Museum Berggruen, Berlin.
Handled with care by our specialized teams, every piece arrived safe and sound – because transporting art is about more than logistics. It’s about protecting cultural value, trust, and heritage.
