The majority of the cargo business is handled via Frankfurt Airport. Lufthansa Cargo is pursuing the goal of becoming the world's most sustainable cargo airline. To achieve this, the company relies on state-of-the-art technologies and continuous investments in the area of sustainability. In 2021, important milestones were reached, such as the fleet modernization to an all-B777F fleet and the introduction of completely CO2-neutral freight transport for all customers. In 2022, Lufthansa Cargo plans to successively equip its fleet with Sharkskin technology and expand its Sustainable Aviation Fuel program to further reduce CO2 emissions. Lufthansa Cargo is a wholly owned subsidiary of Deutsche Lufthansa AG and the specialist for the logistics business of the Lufthansa Group.

🐅 A tiger’s tale: From war-torn Ukraine to South African skies

Last month, we had the privilege of transporting Mir, a rescued tiger, from Brussels via Frankfurt to his new home in South Africa.

Mir’s story is one of resilience. Once kept as a pet in a private garden in Ukraine, he was left behind when his owner was forced to flee the country because of the war. In April 2023, Mir was brought to the Wild Animal Rescue Center near Kyiv, where dedicated teams cared for him under increasingly difficult conditions. Harsh winters, power shortages, and extreme cold made the situation even more challenging.

When Belgium’s Natuurhulpcentrum Opglabbeek Oudsbergen learned about Mir’s situation, they immediately stepped in to help. The center specializes in the rescue and temporary care of exotic animals, providing expert treatment and a safe environment until a long-term home can be found. Over the years, it has built both the infrastructure and expertise needed to give animals like Mir a second chance.

That second chance was ultimately found thousands of kilometers away at the Isindile Big Cat & Predator Sanctuary in South Africa. There, Mir can finally begin a new chapter surrounded by expert care, wide space, and the conditions he deserves.

We are proud to have been chosen for Mir’s journey to Africa. During his transit, he stayed at our Animal Lounge in Frankfurt, where animals receive professional care in a safe and calm environment – whether they are arriving, departing, or connecting to their next destination.

Our colleagues were deeply moved by his story. As he departed for South Africa on LH572, they sent him off with heartfelt wishes for the future.

Some journeys continue long after landing. ✈️
Lufthansa is giving selected Airbus A380 Business Class seats a second life by auctioning them via eBay Charity. The seats come from the world’s largest passenger aircraft, the A380 “Munich”, which travelled the world for many years and logged more than 46,700 flight hours.
All proceeds will support the work of help alliance and Cargo Human Care | Wir verändern Leben | Kenia 🇰🇪 helping create education and career opportunities for young people around the world. 🌍

This year, we are proud to have been chosen once again to transport these modern masterworks – this time across the Atlantic to the United States.
The exhibition opened on May 20, and art lovers can now experience “Picasso–Klee–Matisse: Masterpieces from the Museum Berggruen” at The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. The exhibition offers a rare U.S. debut of an important German collection, featuring more than 95 paintings, watercolors, drawings, and sculptures on loan from Museum Berggruen, Berlin.
Handled with care by our specialized teams, every piece arrived safe and sound – because transporting art is about more than logistics. It’s about protecting cultural value, trust, and heritage.

Trust that travels far

Perdita Lübbe-Scheuermann and her team at "Rettet das Nashorn" (Save the Rhino) have trusted us for years to fly trained dogs to South Africa, where they support the fight against rhino poaching. Read the full story here: https://www.lufthansa-cargo.com/en/-/rettet-das-nashorn?cd=b

Most recently, two more dogs made the journey. But this time, the return flight carried something truly special.

Perdita, a dedicated dog trainer, met Ra Rhandzu – a blind dog in Africa. They fell in love with each other. After careful thought and consideration, she made a life-changing decision: to give him a new home in Germany.

We were honoured to be chosen to bring Ra Rhandzu safely to his next chapter.

✈️ From CAI to VNO: Delivering performance without limits

At Lufthansa Cargo, performance isn’t just what we deliver – it’s how we deliver it.

Every shipment has a purpose. Some keep industries moving. Others power ambition. And some, like this one, bring high-performance passion to life.

Recently, our CAI team handled the transport of a truly unique cargo: a professional drift car for Egyptian driver Karim Hany, competing in the Drift Masters European Championship 2026.

Built on an iconic BMW E46 and engineered for top-level competition, this shipment demanded more than standard logistics. From precise planning and careful acceptance in Cairo to secure lashing and monitoring throughout the journey via FRA to VNO, every detail mattered.
