With MV Lone calmly moored alongside the quay in Rønne at the end of the campaign, the transition piece installation scope on the Baltic Power offshore wind farm comes to a close – marking an important milestone for SAL and a successful first for the vessel.
Supporting the installation of all 76 transition pieces, MV Lone played a key role in completing this phase of the project, part of a large-scale offshore wind development and one of Poland’s most significant renewable energy investments.
“It comes with great contentment that we’re done with the TP installation,” says Thijs Dikkers, Project Director at Van Oord – reflecting the strong collaboration that enabled this scope to be delivered successfully.
For this campaign, our scope went far beyond transport and lifting. It included the design and fabrication of dedicated installation and lifting tools, as well as custom seafastening grillage, engineered specifically for this operation. In addition, our teams ensured technical management and operational readiness throughout the project. On board, a fully owned eight-layer Temporary Living Quarter (TLQ) supported offshore ex*****on, providing modernised workspaces and comfortable living conditions throughout the project.
Each offshore installation cycle followed a precisely coordinated sequence – from warning light removal and fl**ge cleaning to anode ring installation, followed by the lifting and positioning of the transition piece, bolting, and final completion works.
From a project perspective, Tomasz Reterski, Senior Project Manager at SAL, highlights that “preparation and close alignment across all teams were key. Seeing how engineering, technical management, vessel operations and offshore ex*****on came together to deliver this project safely and on schedule is something we are very proud of.”
This close coordination across all disciplines enabled a reliable ex*****on, even in demanding offshore conditions – made possible through the strong collaboration with Van Oord and the dedication of our colleagues on board MV Lone.
“This campaign had no precedence in Poland – we engaged over 500 crew members and around 20 vessels to install foundations and transition pieces for 76 turbines that will produce energy at Baltic Power offshore wind farm soon. Shared purpose, focus on safety and strong sense of collaboration made it possible to execute this campaign successfully,” adds Richard Bedwell, Foundation Package Manager at Baltic Power.
With Baltic Power playing a key role in Poland’s energy transition, we are proud to contribute our expertise to projects shaping the future of offshore wind – and to continue supporting the industry as it evolves.
