An experience for the whole family: unique, giant and one of Salzburg`s most popular attractions: Eisriesenwelten (Giant Ice World).
It is a natural limestone and ice cave located in Werften.
Through the huge cave portal of 20 m with and 18 m height you will feel absorbed by the mysterious world of ice. In addition to the huge dimensions, the cave impresses with its crystal clear beauty.

Why don`t you venture out for the beautiful Salzkammergut, the countryside of Salzburg, if you need a break from the city and the huzzle and buzzle of the Mozart Festival.

One of our top recommendations: Rent a car for one day and explore the Lake district. A great start into the day is a drive to the spa town of Bad Ischl, where Emperor Franz Joseph loved to spend his summer holidays. Definitely worthwile there is a visit to the Kaiservilla, his summer residence.
Or, if you`re a fan of Sissi, go to Lake Fuschl. Schlosshotel Fuschl was one of the locations of the popular Sissi movie in 1958.
If you like nature go and visit Lake Wolfgang for hiking, riding a bike, water sports or for a relaxed day in one of the most beautiful places in the lake District.

What is the first thing that comes to your mind when thinking of Salzburg?
Mozart!
Salzburg's most famous son has left his mark on the whole city and far beyond, so let`s take a walk through the Mozart city.

We start where it all began: At the birthplace of Mozart.
The house is located in the popular "Getreidegasse", a medievial street with iron guild signs on the small houses and attracts thousands of visitors annually.
The museum spreads over 3 floors; you can walk through the rooms where Mozart lived, with exhibits like his children's violin.

We also recommend you to visit the house of Mozart at Marktplatz. It is simply a wonderful place in Mozart`s family history.
Next stop is the Mozartheum, a famous university of Fine Arts, like music, acting and related subjects.
While roaming about in the city we get more and more aware about the importance of Mozart in Salzburg until this present day.

And that`s where the next post will tie up with.

The landmark of Salzburg towers high above its picturesque Old Town. If you ever look at a picture of this remarkable city it is the first thing that catches your eye: The Hohensalzburg fortress.
Due to its perfect location high above Salzburg, it offers an excellent view of the city and the surrounding mountains.
Built in 1077, The "Festung", as it is called in German, is the largest preserved building of its kind in Central Europe.

The original purpose of Hohensalzburg, was to protect the archbishops of the catholic church and principals from hostile attacks. In all these years, it has never been captured by foreign troops.
Now, the highlight of the fortress are the many museums, for example the Fortress Museum itself. It shows the important exhibits with focus on the life of the archbishops.

Have you ever enjoyed the wonderful view on top of Salzburg?

Rostock really deserves its attribute because it has a unique ferry connection to Scandinavia.

Historically speaking this wonderful harbour city prides itself with a certain grandeur. Just like Lübeck and Stralsund, Rostock also belonged to the Hanse (trade union of the Hanseatic cities)
founded in the 13th century. With its 14,000 inhabitants at that time, Rostock was considered as one of the largest, richest and most progressive metropolitan cities of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation. Up to 370 ships sailed under the municipal flag.

Today Rostock is a beautiful city to study, work and simply enjoy life. The city is located on the river Unterwarnow, pouring into the Baltic Sea at Warnemünde, its port located 10 km North from Rostock.
Warnemünde is also considered as the birthplace of the beach chair

Rügen, the biggest island in Germany.
Feel yourself invited to explore its impressive nature and culture.
We start out with a visit to the Stubbenkammer, a popular bay with its steep cliffs lined by fresh beech green on white rocks that cast their shadow on the green Baltic Sea.
This spot inspired Capar David Friedrich, the well known landscape painter to create one of his famous pieces of art.
By the way …. some parts of the island are best to be discovered by cycle.

The author Gerhard Hauptmann, an important representative of German naturalism, loved the island and lived at times on Hiddensee a smaller island to the West of Rügen.
An architectural landmark is comprised by the the huge, 4.3 km long complex Prora. The holiday resort was designed for 200,000 people and built in the time of Hitler`s regime for the N**i organisation "Kraft durch Freude" (power through joy). In Prora, German workers were supposed to find recreation at reasonable prices and recharge their batteries.

Stralsund is located on the German Baltic Coast formerly belonged to East Germany. It is a Unesco World Heritage City and gateway to the island of Rügen, the largest strait, called Strelasund, between the island of Rügen and the mainland.

The Hanseatic city was founded in the 13th century. At the end of the same century it joined the Hanseatic House (Hanse) and became a successful and important Hanseatic city on the Baltic coast through shipbuilding and trade.

After the World War II Stralsund developed into a port and industrial city. The shipyard in Stralsund is one of the largest special shipyards for fishing boats.
The old town of Stralsund was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2002.

Have you ever been to Stralsund? Whenever you go there, please make sure to share your impressions with us:)

Lübeck, the Queen of the Hanseatic cities.

Due to its direct access to the Baltic Sea, Lübeck, at times, was considered one of the main ports of the Hanse and was described as the "Gateway to the Baltic trade". Furthermore, the goods from Hamburg for the Baltic Sea region flowed in via Lübeck. Thus, for centuries, Lübeck was the most important trading city in the entire North of Europe.
Come and explore Lübeck's old, historic city centre covering the largest single area classified as UNESCO World Heritage. Following your extraordinary sightseeing experience you could enjoy a relaxing swim in the popular seaside resort Travemünde.
