En vigtig ting i sin arktiske kapacitets portefølje er at Danmark skal kunne demonstrere overfor sine allierede og omgivelser at man besidder unikke og taktiske egenskaber i forbindelse med at operere i det ekstreme arktiske miljø. Det jeg taler om er langt mere end at fortage langdistance overvågning og suverænitetshåndhævelse med SIRIUS patruljen i det øde Nord og Nordøstgrønland.

Et eksempel er etablering af midlertidige landingsbaner på is i Nord-og Nordøstgrønland til brug for taktiske indsættelse af fx flytypen C-130 og tilsvarende. Kan fx anvendes til mobilisering af større militærenheder og udstyr, herunder camps. At demonstrere taktisk snilde og unikke løsninger i et ekstremt miljø er et vigtigt og værdifuldt signal at sende til sine omgivelser.

I princip findes de fleste kompetencer til at operere den form for operation allerede i det danske forsvar. Dog ligger viden og kompetencer spredt ud i forsvarets værktøjskasse i dag. Man kan med stor fordel samle den viden et sted i Forsvaret hvor man kan udnytte alles kompetencer og ekspertviden til at eksekvere, operere og levere alsidige arktiske special operationer.

Den form for kompetence og kapacitet har længe ligget højt på min personlige ønskeliste over hvad forsvaret skal kunne levere på i Grønland.

The Olimpo landed on Ellesmere Island in Canada Thursday 19 July.
As gracefully as it floats even the the most elegant things have a hard time keeping up appearances after 38 km of free fall.
Everything now packed up and ready to travel back to be made ready for the next flight

Saturday 14 july at 09:05 Olimpo was finally launched from Longyearbyen. Congratulations to the launch team from SSC.
Now POLOG is up. Our job is to find it and bring it back where ever it lands.

Perhaps Sebastian is wondering how to fit this into an AS350 helicopter?

Dear Friends meet Olimpo. She’s a 2 tons Italian piece of engineering. Olimpo will be lifted by a balloon and will fly at 40000 meters above the High Arctic this summer.
Next time we see her is when we bring her home.
By the way, the balloon is another 2 tons...and neither will fit in an AS350

Last week, POLOG participated in the PDAC mining convention in Toronto together with a large business delegation from Greenland. It was our 10th visit to the PDAC convention. As usual we always return to DK with updated information on the mining business in general and in Greenland in particular, but also with an even stronger network for future operations 💪🏻😊
