🎬 First look: Breaking Better

We're pleased to share a first look at Breaking Better, BIMCO's new documentary exploring the circular economy of ship recycling.

Earlier this year, BIMCO Secretary General David Loosley and Regional Manager & Technical Advisor Capt. Ashok Srinivasan, MBA, AFNI travelled to Alang, India, to see how the industry is evolving one year after the Hong Kong Convention entered into force.

The result is a 36-minute documentary that takes viewers behind the scenes of modern ship recycling, highlighting the people, processes and progress shaping the sector's future.

Our latest film from the Seafarers Deserve Fairer Seas campaign aims to raise awareness of fair treatment and safety for seafarers, who are responsible for transporting nearly 12.5 billion tons of goods and essential commodities each year.

The film highlights the risks seafarers face, from unjust imprisonment to attacks linked to global conflict.

📢We need your help - Seafarers Deserve Fairer Seas

Please help us raise awareness of the urgent need for governments and all relevant stakeholders to commit to protecting the men and women who keep the world supplied with food, fuel and everyday goods.

Seafarers continue to be unfairly blamed or imprisoned after maritime incidents. Even when they have done nothing wrong.

Recent years have seen an escalation of geopolitical tension, with more shipping routes disrupted by war.

Currently, around 20,000 seafarers are stranded in the Persian Gulf on board ships under heightened risk and considerable mental strain.
