📢We need your help - Seafarers Deserve Fairer Seas

Please help us raise awareness of the urgent need for governments and all relevant stakeholders to commit to protecting the men and women who keep the world supplied with food, fuel and everyday goods.

Seafarers continue to be unfairly blamed or imprisoned after maritime incidents. Even when they have done nothing wrong.

Recent years have seen an escalation of geopolitical tension, with more shipping routes disrupted by war.

Currently, around 20,000 seafarers are stranded in the Persian Gulf on board ships under heightened risk and considerable mental strain.

Please help us share this important message:

"The world relies on seafarers, seafarers face increasing danger, and seafarers deserve fairer seas."

➡️ 3 ways YOU can help amplify this message

1) Watch our latest film (below) "Fair Seas" which calls for fair treatment and stronger protection for seafarers who keep global supply chains connected

2) Share our "Fair Seas" film to ensure this message reaches as many people as possible including governments and relevant stakeholders

3) Visit www.bimco.org/fairseas to find out how else you can help

The Hong Kong Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships entered into force last week. We believe the convention has the potential to change the face of ship recycling, support the circular economy and provide safe jobs to the people that need them. It will still require some effort to raise the standard of yards throughout the whole Southeast Asia region, but we must not go back to substandard recycling.

Did you know? Ship recycling could double to 16,000 ships over the next 10 years 📈

As the Hong Kong Convention entered into force we have updated our estimate for the ship recycling potential over the next 10 years.

We now estimate the potential to be 16,000 ships, or 700m deadweight tonnes (DWT), from previously 15,000. The new estimate equals twice the number of ships, and nearly triple the DWT, recycled over the last 10 years and highlights the need for investments in compliant recycling facilities.
