El primer viñedo del Caribe rodeado de una reserva natural y el mar.

El día empieza en Santo Domingo y te lleva, en menos de dos horas, a un paisaje poco típico para la isla: hileras de viñas sobre suelos volcánicos, con el verde extendiéndose hasta las montañas y el mar al fondo. El aire aquí tiene un punto salino y huele a vegetación caliente por el sol.

El recorrido se hace en coche eléctrico, suave, casi en silencio. Solo se oye a veces el crujir de la grava bajo las ruedas y los pájaros que cruzan las viñas. Después, la cata. Vinos producidos en este mismo suelo, con un sabor que cambia según la estación, acompañados de quesos locales y pan recién horneado. Si quieres quedarte a comer, el restaurante mira al viñedo y la brisa suele ser constante.

📝 Ve en ropa ligera y zapatos cómodos, aquí el sol pega fuerte y el terreno es franco-arenoso. Mejor reservar fin de semana, es cuando abre la visita guiada al viñedo. Si te gusta probar cosas distintas, pregunta por el significado de Ocoa: es un nombre indígena que habla de agua y montañas.

POV: bajas del ATV y el mar te recibe con espuma. Macao no es solo una playa: aquí, el nombre viene de los taínos y todavía suena a costa viva y a ranas escondidas tras la maleza.

Llegas cubierto de polvo tras recorrer caminos rojos y cruzar plantaciones de cacao. Lo primero que se siente es la brisa cargada de sal y el ruido del oleaje fuerte. La arena es tan clara que encandila, y ves a surfistas locales buscando la ola del día. Aquí no hay resort que lo tape todo: los puestos de pescado, las tablas de surf apoyadas en la arena y los niños chapoteando son parte del paisaje.

🦶 Ve con zapatos cerrados o sandalias que aguanten agua. Los mejores lugares para sentarse a la sombra están cerca de los vendedores de pescado.
🌊 Si piensas bañarte, pregunta a los guardavidas dónde están las corrientes, porque aquí el mar se mueve de verdad.

No existe una sola playa privada en República Dominicana. Y aun así, medio país ha sentido alguna vez que hay arena donde no puede entrar.

Esa contradicción tiene una historia, y no es la que uno esperaría. La ley dominicana no es floja: la Ley 305-68 protege 60 metros desde la línea de pleamar. Es el triple de lo que protege México y se escribió 20 años antes que la ley de costas española.

Se aprobó en 1968, cuando todavía no existía Punta Cana. Alguien amplió la protección de 20 a 60 metros antes de que hubiera algo de qué protegerla. Cada resort que puedes nombrar se construyó después, sobre una costa donde la regla ya estaba puesta.

El problema nunca fue la ley. Pasa igual en la Riviera Maya y en California. Es lo que ocurre en cualquier costa donde el modelo de todo incluido se encuentra con una playa pública, y donde casi nadie conoce la norma, incluyendo a veces a quien te pide que te muevas.
