There’s something rare about finding a place where the world seems to slow down ✨

In an age of constant notifications, crowded destinations, and itineraries packed from sunrise to sunset, true peace has become a luxury. Hidden amongst the lush highlands of Santa Cruz Island, on 100 acres of tropical forest and farmland, Enchanted Galapagos Lodge offers exactly that 🌴

🛏️ With just ten spacious rooms, the lodge feels wonderfully intimate. Guests wake to birdsong instead of alarms, wander through gardens framed by towering banana trees, relax beside the pool or in the hot tub, sway gently in a hammock surrounded by the trees, and gather over thoughtfully tailored meals, made with local ingredients from our farm and island. It’s a place where time stretches just a little longer, and where doing less somehow feels like experiencing more ✨

Enchanted Galapagos Lodge is locally owned by Judy Carvalhal & family and operated by Enchanted Expeditions 💙

🌊 TALES FROM GALAPAGOS: THE FLIGHTLESS CORMORANT ✨ By Amy Croft ✨

If there is one bird in Galápagos that stands out as both fascinating and slightly terrifying, it’s the flightless cormorant.

With piercing icy-blue eyes and ragged, half-formed wings stretched to dry on black lava rocks, this bird looks prehistoric. You might initially feel sorry for a bird that can’t soar over the islands - but what it lacks in flight, it more than makes up for, beneath the ocean’s surface.

This bird is an extraordinary diver.

One moment it sits motionless on the rocks - the next it plunges into the water with startling speed, emerging with prey clamped in its hooked beak.

But beware… these birds have an attitude.

I was snorkeling in Punta Vicente Roca, floating above sea turtles resting peacefully on the sandy bottom of a shallow bay. Before entering the water, we had been warned not to get too close to the cormorants, as it was breeding season. I had heard stories of these birds charging visitors, so I kept a cautious eye and some distance.

Suddenly, a splash.

Just feet away, a cormorant torpedoed into the water after its prey. I froze in awe, getting a front-row seat to its underwater precision. Then, remembering the warnings, I slowly started swimming backward.

Feeling reasonably safe again, I felt a tug on my fin.

Confused, I looked down to see the bird furiously clapping at my fin with its long beak, repeatedly charging at my fins. I swam harder, trying to escape the offended little creature as it darted toward me again with surprising determination.

When I reached the other snorkelers, we instinctively formed a defensive circle, backs together, nervously watching the birds surrounding us.

Then came the shrieks from our guide.

One of the cormorants had launched itself at her, charging like a tiny, feathered bull! She gently tried to push it away as it continued its furious assault while we watched in stunned disbelief.

Finally, the bird lost interest, slipping back to its lava-rock throne to proudly survey its kingdom. And there we floated, laughing, slightly terrified, and completely humbled by the wonderfully wild unpredictability of Galápagos ✨

Chocolate in Ecuador 🌱🇪🇨 For centuries it was believed that cocoa was born in Mesoamerica. Today science confirms that Ecuador is officially the birthplace of chocolate! While many associate chocolate with other regions, the oldest remains of cacao were found in the tropical and humid Amazon, used by the Mayo Chinchipe-Marañón people long before it spread to the rest of the world.

🍫 From the rich, fertile soil of the coast to the heights of the Andes and the depths of the Amazon, Ecuador continues to produce some of the finest cacao and award-winning chocolate on Earth. What was once used as a medicine, currency (beans), and a sacred beverage for ceremonies, is now a thriving part of Ecuador’s culture and tourism experience.

You can visit local cacao farms to:
✨ Taste the soft, sweet white pulp of a fresh cacao pod
✨ Experience the subtle flavor differences between growing regions
✨ Hand-roast, peel, and grind cacao beans to make your own hard-earned fresh chocolate
✨ Taste a hot chocolate beverage in the traditional style

Ready to experience it for yourself? Contact us to start planning your adventure! 🇪🇨🌱
