Baltic Rail Launches New Poland-Rijeka Intermodal Rail Service

Baltic Rail is pleased to announce the launch of a new intermodal rail service connecting Poland with the Port of Rijeka in Croatia.

The first train is scheduled to depart in week 18.

With this new connection, Baltic Rail is proud to offer customers an alternative to our existing Koper service. Like our service to Koper the new service will offer the only direct non-stop service between Poland and Rijeka.

The new Rijeka service will operate via key inland terminals, ensuring efficient and reliable cargo flows:

• Wrocław Terminal
• Katowice Terminal
• Paskov Terminal

The service is designed to provide flexible scheduling, with regular departures aligned to customer demand and terminal ocean connectivity.

Traffic through Baltic Rail’s terminals in 2025 grew by 19% during 2025 despite difficult trading conditions.
Infrastructure maintenance and port congestion was a significant obstacle to growth in activity. The Adriatic service continues to suffer from the Red Sea crisis.
However, the core markets of Poland and Hungary enjoy stronger economies and better performance than other regions of Europe and our new operations are providing the growth.
Looking forward CEO Stephen Archer said ‘After a very tough 2025 we are hopeful that 2026 will stabilize and we can return to efficiency and productivity improvements rather than the ‘crisis management’ of recent years. We thank all of our partners and customers who provide the growth that we report today.’

Baltic Rail are pleased to present performance for the first half of 2025 comparing to 2024.

Our Adriatic Service, connecting Poland and the Adriatic, has faced a challenging period due to the ongoing Red Sea crisis which is disrupting supply chains from Asia. However, as a result of this challenge we have focused our attention on the North African, Middle East and the Mediterranean markets. In this regards we have been successfully using powered re**er wagons to move temperature-controlled produce between Poland and the Eastern Mediterranean.

In addition to the Adriatic Service, we have also seen growth in services to the Baltic Sea, Germany and Hungary.

We await a return to more normal global supply chains!

Driving Innovation!

Recently, we had the pleasure of hosting a live demonstration of the modern shunting and terminal support machine Rotrac RRE2444 at our terminal in Katowice. Thank you, www.corail.pl, for making it possible!

It is a compact, remote-controlled electric shunter, capable of moving heavy railcars with zero emissions, reduced noise, and minimal infrastructure requirements. It can also perform off rail terminal functions – many machines for the price of one — everything modern terminals demand.

This demonstration is part of our ongoing effort to explore and implement innovative solutions that improve performance and sustainability across our terminals.

Moving forward — to operate efficiently today and be ready for the challenges of tomorrow!

🎉 Intermodal Container Terminal Székesfehérvár is celebrating its 1-year anniversary! 🎉

In June 2024, we proudly launched Terminal in Székesfehérvár (Hungary), and today it is marking its first year of successful operations!

Since opening, we have established regular weekly container train connections between Koper and Hungary (and also Poland), enhancing our European train network.

Growth in second quarter was 6% above first quarter reflecting the increased cargo volumes and recognition of the new terminal performance and capabilities.

Hungary is rapidly emerging as a new logistics hub for Eastern Europe, and we are pleased to be at the heart of it. Located close to Budapest, just next to Europe’s largest battery production facilities, and along key transport corridors, the Terminal in Székesfehérvár offers a powerful link between Central Europe, the Balkans, and Asia.
Train connections and bookings are welcome!

Baltic Rail is pleased to announce its operating performance for the first 4 months of 2025 in its terminals.
The increase in terminal activity is generated by new connections to Hungary and the Baltic Sea operated in conjunction with partners.
The main intermodal route between the Adriatic Ports and Poland has been badly affected by the troubles in the Red Sea. Some container line services are still sailing around Africa which reduces the competitiveness of the Adriatic ports for traffic to and from Poland.
Commenting on the results Stephen Archer (CEO) stated ‘The diversification that is provided by the new routes is very welcome in these difficult times. We hope to see the return of stability in the Red Sea and the resumption of normal operations between Asia and the Adriatic Ports’.
Baltic Rail remains committed to diversifying our operations, forging new partnerships, and supporting new supply chains as the economies of the region develop.

Baltic Rail is pleased to announce its operational results for 2024. TEU handled in all Baltic Rail terminals are summarized in the chart below.

As seen from the chart TEUs handled have increased by 40.6%. This result has been achieved with the opening of the new operation in Székesfehérvár in Hungary and new connections to the Baltic Sea operated in cooperation with our partners.

The troubles in the Red Sea have reduced the volume of business on Baltic Rail’s Adriatic Service but the war in Ukraine is resulting in traffic flows converting from Trans-Siberian trains to alternative routing through the Adriatic and Black Seas.

Commenting on the performance Stephen Archer, CEO of Baltic Rail, said:

‘2024 has been a challenging year but Baltic Rail has shown its resilience and used its innovation and flexibility to benefit from the opportunities in the market place. We hope for a return to a more stable environment in 2025 when, together with our customers, we can plan with more certainty.’
