Ramses II had a pair of new obelisks placed before the entrance to the newly built Luxor temple; one of them was transferred to Europe in 1834 and today presides over the Place de la Concorde in Paris. This is the only obelisk still standing before the entrance pylon of the Luxor temple. His brother was taken to Paris in 1834. Both were erected by Ramses II.
