TRAVEL TIP TUESDAY: Let’s talk travel insurance!

“I have travel insurance through my credit card/work, so I’m covered.”

Maybe — but do you know WHAT you’re actually covered for?

💳 Check your credit card. Look specifically at your Trip Cancellation & Interruption limits. Depending on your card, the coverage may be significantly less than the actual cost of your trip.

🩺 Check your work benefits. Not every group plan includes emergency travel medical, and even if yours does, check the limits and restrictions.

⚠️ And remember: Medical coverage does NOT automatically mean you have Trip Cancellation & Interruption coverage.

A real example? This past March, while I was in Tanzania, our flight home was cancelled due to the situation in the Middle East. We had to purchase completely new flights at the last minute. While the original airfare was refunded, our replacement flights cost us well over $1,000 MORE.

Thankfully, we had Trip Interruption coverage and were able to submit those additional costs for reimbursement.

You truly never know what can happen while you’re travelling.

Every Monday, I’m breaking down 5 things from the past week that you should know about that could potentially impact your travel plans — the good and the bad!

Here’s what happened last week 👇🏼

1. 🚆 EUROPE’S NIGHT-TRAIN REVIVAL CONTINUES

A new overnight sleeper train connecting Brussels and Malmö was announced last week, with service targeted for April 2028.

The route would connect Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark and Sweden, which would add another exciting addition to Europe’s growing overnight rail network.

2. ✈️ EUROPE’S SKIES ARE BUSIER THAN EVER

European air traffic reached record levels this summer, while weather-related delays increased last week.

A good reminder to leave breathing room between connections, especially when travelling on separate tickets.

3. 🇮🇹 TRAVELLING TO ITALY IN SEPTEMBER?

Several transportation strikes are planned across Italy this September, potentially affecting trains, flights and local transit.

If Italy is on your itinerary, check schedules before travelling and build some flexibility into your plans.

4.🇳🇵 FLOODS & LANDSLIDES HIT NEPAL

Severe flooding and landslides struck the Nepal/China border region last week, causing loss of life and significant damage to roads and infrastructure.

Keeping the people of Nepal and everyone affected in our thoughts and prayers. 🤍🇳🇵

5. 🚢 VIKING CONTINUES TO EXPAND

Viking announced seven new river ships last week!

Four will sail the Rhine, Main & Danube, one the Seine in France, and two the Nile in Egypt. 🇪🇬

More ships = even more ways to explore Europe and Egypt by river.

Putting the final touches on my Tanzania Safari Guide for my individual & group safari clients 🦁🇹🇿

I’ve put all the details into this guide that I wish I had known before going on my first Tanzanian safari - from what to pack and what to expect on game drives, to tipping, currency, the different safari regions and so much more.

My goal is for my clients to arrive feeling prepared, confident and, most importantly, excited for everything Tanzania has to offer. 🤎

✈️ TRAVEL TIP TUESDAY: Don’t forget about visas!

Having a Canadian or U.S. passport doesn’t automatically mean you can enter every country visa-free.

I just finished applying for my visa for Pakistan 🇵🇰 and even after submitting my application, I was contacted asking for some additional information.

And yes, I know all of my Egyptian friends are probably rolling their eyes at me right now like, “Welcome to our life.” 😂 We are incredibly lucky with Canadian passports, but even Canadians still need visas for certain destinations so don’t assume you can just book a flight and go!

Visa requirements can vary depending on your passport and destination, and some applications require more documentation and time than others.

When you book with me, this is something I’ll flag for you. While I can’t complete or submit visa applications on behalf of my clients, I can make sure you’re aware of the requirements and point you in the right direction.

Travel Tip Tuesday takeaway: Check those entry requirements early! 🌍✈️
