Adeje was filled with tradition, music and joy yesterday! 🇮🇨❤️

Yesterday we enjoyed a beautiful romería where locals and visitors came together to celebrate our traditions to the sound of the tajaraste, with dancing, Canarian music and a great festive atmosphere.

There was no shortage of gofio, w**e, shared food and, above all, the desire to enjoy such a special day in our municipality. 🌺

How beautiful it is to see our streets full of tradition and to keep our customs alive! ❤️

There is one street habit visitors bring to Spain that quietly empties wallets right at the crosswalk.

In Spain, pedestrians are road users with their own rules, and the Reglamento General de Circulacion puts them under the same signal-obedience law as drivers. Cross while the red standing figure is lit and you are, in the eyes of the law, running a red light on foot. The Direccion General de Trafico sets the baseline pedestrian fine at 80 euros, and crossing against the signal is the version that climbs toward 200. Nobody hands out a warning first, and not knowing the rule is never a defense the officer accepts. The little figure is an instruction, not a suggestion.

Enforcement is not automatic, and that is exactly why people get caught off guard. Local police lean in where a crossing is busy, near schools, or where a red-light crosser forces a car or a cyclist to brake. Tourist-heavy centers like Barcelona, Madrid, and Seville keep officers on foot in the old quarters, and a visitor stepping off the curb against the figure is one of the easiest stops they make all day. The crowded summer weeks, when the streets are thick with holidaymakers, are when it happens the most. You will not see the officer until the fine is already in motion.

The math never favors the shortcut. You save maybe 20 seconds, and you risk a fine worth a museum day, a long lunch, and a taxi across town combined. If you do get ticketed, Spanish law cuts the amount in half when you pay within 20 days, so a 200 euro fine becomes 100. That discount sounds generous until you remember the whole thing was avoidable by standing still for a moment. A fine you never earn will always beat a fine you merely discount.

Treat the little walking figures as traffic lights meant for you, because that is precisely what they are. Green figure, you go. Red figure, you wait, even at one in the morning on an empty side street where standing still feels absurd. Cross at the marked paso de peatones, not in the gap between parked cars where drivers are not looking for you. Teach the same rule to the children and the slower walkers in your group, so nobody drifts into the road early and hands over 200 euros for the privile

🚨 These maneuvers, unfortunately, we witness almost daily in the Special Area of Conservation (SAC) Teno-Rasca, home to a resident population of short-finned pilot whales.
In these images we show a situation that should never happen:
🔴 Red line: trajectory of the sailboat.
🔵 Blue line: trajectory of the group of pilot whales.
❌ Cutting across the cetaceans' trajectory.
❌ Passing over the area where the animals are, forcing them to dive.
❌ Getting in between individuals and causing the separation of the family group.
On this occasion, it is a private sailboat sailing through a protected area. We do not know if its crew is aware that there are specific regulations to protect these animals, but not knowing them does not exempt them from complying.
Short-finned pilot whales live in social groups with strong family bonds. Interrupting their movements, altering their behavior, or separating their members can cause stress and put their well-being at risk.
⚠️ THE SEA BELONGS TO EVERYONE, BUT RESPECTING ITS INHABITANTS IS EVERYONE'S OBLIGATION.
You don't have to be a whale-watching vessel to comply with the regulations. They also apply to private sailboats, recreational boats, and any vessel sailing in these waters.
If you are sailing in an area where there are cetaceans, get informed, keep your distance and never interfere with their trajectory.
Share this post. The more sailors who know the rules, the better we can protect our pilot whales.

Animals tumbled into canals across Europe with no way out. The vertical concrete walls that lined these waterways offered no purchase. A creature that fell in—a deer, a fox, a badger—would exhaust itself against the smooth sides and drown.

The solution arrived quietly. Engineers and conservationists began installing ramps at intervals along canal systems. The ramps were modest structures, angled gently enough that an animal could climb from water to bank without requiring strength it no longer possessed. They worked because they addressed a basic problem: humans had created a trap, and the ramp was simply a way out.

What made these installations significant was not their complexity but what they represented. Modern infrastructure—canals, highways, dams, buildings—fragments landscapes and creates hazards that wild animals never evolved to navigate. A ramp could not undo that fragmentation. But it acknowledged that when humans reshape the world, the creatures living in it must somehow adapt to the changes we make.

The ramps saved individual animals from drowning. More broadly, they demonstrated that preventing wildlife casualties did not require elaborate intervention. It required noticing where the system was failing and making an adjustment that cost little but mattered to every creature that encountered it.

An octopus can't speak up when it's suffering. 💙🐙

Behind every remarkable octopus is a life that deserves protection. These intelligent, sensitive creatures can experience stress and pain, yet intensive farming can expose them to confinement and conditions that compromise their welfare. Spain's decision to ban octopus farming nationwide marks an important moment in the conversation about how we treat marine life. 🌊
Protecting the ocean isn't just about saving species; it's about showing compassion for the extraordinary creatures living beneath the waves.
