🌾 Did You Know?

Most people believe that El Jable, Lanzarote's famous white sand, comes from the Sahara Desert.

But the truth is far more fascinating.

The sand is made mainly of tiny fragments of seashells, calcareous algae and microscopic marine organisms. Over thousands of years, the Atlantic Ocean broke these remains down into fine biogenic sand, which was then carried inland by the island's trade winds.

Far from being just a beautiful landscape, El Jable has played a vital role in Lanzarote's history, helping local farmers grow crops by retaining moisture in the soil despite the island's dry climate.
