I love how different the buildings are in Barcelona. Everyone talks about Gaudi, but coming across other unique buildings like this always makes me smile.

Barcelona is the UNESCO-UIA World Capital of Architecture for 2026, recognising the city’s distinctive architectural heritage, its approach to urban planning and its commitment to creating accessible, inclusive and sustainable public spaces.

Throughout the year and until December, Barcelona is hosting a wide programme of exhibitions, guided tours, talks, workshops and other activities across all ten districts. These events explore the city's famous buildings as well as architecture, urban planning and landscape design and their role in shaping the city and addressing social and environmental challenges.

If you're interested in architecture then check out for details of the events - and keep your eyes peeled as you explore! You never know what you might find 😍

⭐ SAGRADA FAMILIA TICKETS: GetYourGuide now have refundable tickets available!⭐

Make sure you buy tickets to the Sagrada Familia well in advance as they always sell out, sometimes weeks before!

This is the official Sagrada Familia website where you can buy tickets and tours directly from the Sagrada Familia, BUT tickets are non-refundable and non-changable: https://sagradafamilia.org/en/sagrada-familia-ticket

Alternatively, GetYourGuide is an official seller and you can now buy tickets that you can cancel up to 2 days in advance for a full refund: https://www.getyourguide.com/sagrada-familia-l2699/sagrada-familia-skip-the-line-ticket-t50027/?partner_id=0FQQ4K6&utm_medium=online_publisher&cmp=fb&mkt_cmp=true

These tours booked through GetYourGuide can also be cancelled up to 24 hours in advance with a full refund : https://www.getyourguide.com/barcelona-l45/barcelona-sagrada-familia-skip-the-line-entry-ticket-tour-t288805/?partner_id=0FQQ4K6&utm_medium=online_publisher&cmp=fb&mkt_cmp=true

The tickets through GetYourGuide are more expensive than on the official site, but if you're not 100% sure of your plans but don't want to miss out this could be a great option for you! (I'm an affiliate for GetYourGuide so if you book through these links I will earn a small commission)

Also, some people have reported having problems with credit card payments not working on the official site, so if this doesn’t work for you then you can try calling your bank to allow authorization or using a debit card instead of a credit card, or an Amex card.

If tickets for the day you want have sold out, tours often have later availability as the company holds tickets for their tour groups so you might be able to snag tickets at short notice.

GetYourGuide is an official reseller of tickets, and I’ve used them for multiple tours and entry tickets around the world so you can book tickets through them with confidence – just by looking at the number of 5* reviews from other people you can see lots of other happy customers.

⚠️DO NOT buy tickets from unofficial sellers. I’ve heard multiple complaints about a company called Walker Tours so AVOID them at all costs, and other websites which look real but are not!

I am definitely feeling the Medieval vibe at the moment!

Last weekend a friend and I went to check out the Medieval Festival at Besalu. It's just one of the well-preserved medieval towns in Catalonia, and many of them celebrate their history with fairs like this.

We had a front row view of the jousting, and although it was busy we had a good wander around the town too. There were other events like sword fighting, flag displays, live music and crafts, as well as a market in the main square.

It has inspired me to go to more of these, so let me know if you have a favourite. Vic hosts one of the biggest medieval festivals in December so that is already on my list!

Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia, an autonomous region in north-east Spain.

How much do you know about Catalonia?

➡️ Catalonia covers roughly 32,000 square kilometres, making it slightly larger than Belgium
➡️ The region stretches from the Pyrenees mountains down to the Mediterranean coast
➡️ There are four provinces: Barcelona Province, Girona Province, Tarragona Province, and Lleida Province
➡️ Catalonia has over 580 km of coastline, including the Costa Brava north of Barcelona and the Costa Daurada, around Tarragona.
➡️ The population of Catalonia is around 7.7 million people, 1.7 million of which live in Barcelona
➡️ Catalonia has its own language, Catalan, which is widely spoken alongside Spanish.
➡️ Catalonia has its own flag, La Senyera, designed with four red horizontal stripes on a golden yellow background. You will often see variations of the flag including a star, which is showing support for Catalonia's independence from Spain.
➡️ Catalonia currently accounts for about 18.8% of Spain’s total GDP, making it the second-largest regional economy in Spain, just behind Madrid.
➡️ Catalan culture is quite different from the rest of Spain, with unique festivals and traditions such as the Castellers (human tower building), la sardana (traditional dance), el caganer (a pooping figure in the nativity scene).
