🇬🇧 As the year is coming to an end, I can´t help but look back on the year that has gone by. It has been a year in which I didn´t publish much news, because although the business has been going better than ever, my mind was somewhere else. This summer, my dad passed away. He was the person who taught me how to ride a bike, accompanied me on many training rides and who drove me to all the races when I was too young to drive myself. For me, losing him meant losing the person I wanted to make proud most.
For a long time, I have been asking myself: where is the sense in working hard, growing my business, when he is not around to see it anymore? But my parents taught me to treat every person the way I would like to be treated myself. And therefore, I believe that every client deserves to be treated in the best possible way, with friendly advice and a smile.
So, regardless of whether I was having a good or a bad day, I tried to put on a smile and help the people I´d meet as best as I could. And in return, they helped me find back the joy that I had lost. My dad used to say “if you find a job that you love, you´ll never have to work a day in your life.” And yes, there are days on which my job feels like hard work, when I´m cleaning muddy mountain bikes until 11pm, to have them looking and working like new for the next group the following day, for example. But when people get back from a ride with a big smile on their face, or are sad to say goodbye to the rental bikes after a week of cycling through the Andalucian country side, because they would happily continue a few days more, then I feel I´m pretty lucky.
Therefore, thank you to all the people this year who trusted in me, and booked a rental bike, luggage transfers, guided ride, or contacted me for route advice. In hard times, you gave me reasons to smile again, and I will be forever grateful for it.
🇪🇸 Ahora que se acerca el año nuevo, no puedo evitar mirar hacia atrás. Ha sido un año en el que no he publicado muchas novedades porque, aunque la empresa va mejor que nunca, mi cabeza estaba en otra parte. Este verano, mi padre falleció. Él fue la persona que me enseñó a andar en bicicleta, me acompañó en muchos entrenamientos cuando era joven y me llevó a todas las carreras cuando yo no tenía carnet de conducir. La persona a la que siempre había querido hacerle sentir orgulloso de mí ya no estaba.
Durante mucho tiempo, me pregunté ¿qué sentido tiene trabajar duro, hacer crecer a mi negocio, cuando él ya no está para verlo? Pero mis padres me enseñaron a tratar a cada persona come me gustaría que me trataran a mí. Y por eso, creo que cada cliente merece ser tratado de la mejor manera posible, con amabilidad, buenos consejos y una sonrisa.
Así que, independientemente de si estaba teniendo un buen o un mal día, traté de sonreír y ayudar a las personas con las que me encontré lo mejor que podía. Y a cambio, ellos me ayudaron a recuperar la alegría e ilusión que había perdido. Mi padre solía decir “si encuentras un trabajo que te encanta, no tendrás que trabajar ni un día de tu vida”. Reconozco que hay días en los que mi trabajo se me hace duro, cuando estoy limpiando bicicletas de montaña llenas de barro hasta las 23.00h, para que luzcan y funcionen como nuevas el día siguiente, por ejemplo. Pero me siento muy afortunada cuando la gente vuelve de una ruta en bici con una sonrisa grande, o está triste por tener que despedirse de las bicis de alquiler con las que ha recorrido los paisajes andaluces durante una semana, porque se ha quedado con ganas de más.
Por tanto, quiero dar las gracias a todas las personas que este año confiaron en mí y mi empresa, reservando bicis de alquiler, traslados de equipaje, rutas guiadas o poniéndose en contacto para que les asesorara sobre rutas de ciclismo en la Sierra de Grazalema. En tiempos difíciles, me habéis dado motivos para volver a sonreír y estoy muy agradecida por ello.
