Hi all!
First of all, there’s no need to be alarmed. A DANA is not necessarily synonymous with torrential rains and flooding.

The DANA (Isolated High-Level Depression) is, simply put (and somewhat inaccurately), a pocket of cold air at high atmospheric levels. When this DANA encounters warm, moist air, it can result in storms and potentially very heavy rains. DANAs are common phenomena that occur every year in the Mediterranean, but for these heavy rains to reach inland, three ingredients are needed: a warm Mediterranean Sea (which we currently have), cold air at high altitudes (which we’ll likely have in the coming days), and a flow of moist wind from the Mediterranean Sea moving inland. If any of these ingredients is missing, torrential rains won’t occur.

In fact, when there is only a warm sea and a DANA over the coast but no landward wind flow, the moisture usually remains over the sea, leading to most of the torrential rains staying over the Mediterranean itself, while inland areas experience only limited or scattered rainfall.

Thus, an extensive DANA will approach Spanish territory in the coming days, potentially bringing rain across the entire Mediterranean coast, including, of course, Andalusia and the Costa del Sol. This does not mean that all these areas will be affected, nor that torrential rain is certain in any of them. However, it does seem likely that rain will occur in these areas starting next Wednesday, and depending on wind flow, the possibility of torrential rains could arise again. Nevertheless, this cannot be confirmed in the medium term, so it won’t be clear whether such intense rainfall might occur until one or two days beforehand.

I’ll keep you informed.

Best regards.

🌧 Weather Alert for Thursday, August 29th! 🌧

Get ready, Málaga! A DANA (Isolated Depression at High Levels) is heading our way, bringing potential rain to the province. ☔️ But that's not all—Saharan dust is also on the move, which means we could experience the rare phenomenon of muddy rain, known in Spain as "tears of blood." 🌍

Expect a day of muggy, humid weather with overcast, dust-filled skies. Stay prepared and take care! 🌬

Best regards

We want you to have a peaceful stay, and although the Costa del Sol is a quite safe place, a few tips are always helpful.

How Pickpockets Operate:

Tactics:
🗺️ Maps & Directions: Someone asking for directions can be a decoy.
🐦 Bird Droppings Scam: Someone "helpfully" cleaning off bird droppings could be setting you up for a theft.
🚶‍♂️ Accidental Bumps: A bump or jostle in a crowd might not be so accidental.
🧥 Jackets & Coats: Using clothing to hide their hands while they steal.
📰☔ Newspapers & Umbrellas: Covering their actions to go unnoticed.

High-Risk Locations:
🛍️ Markets & Festivals: Busy areas with lots of people.
🚋 Public Transport: Buses, trains, and stations.
☕ Cafés & Restaurants: Don’t leave bags on chairs or phones on tables.
🏛️ Landmarks & Museums: Popular spots where distractions are common.

Enjoy your time on the Costa del Sol by staying vigilant and keeping your belongings safe. Have a fantastic trip! 🌞🌴

🌬️✨ What is the Terral Wind in Malaga? ✨🌬️

The terral is a warm, dry wind that blows from the inland towards the coast in Malaga city and its surroundings. It happens because of the Föhn effect, where hot air from the interior is pushed down the mountains towards the sea, heating up even more as it descends. This process leads to sudden temperature spikes.

🔥 This Friday, we're expecting temperatures to soar up to 39°C (102°F) in Malaga city and its surroundings! 🔥

Remember to:
💧 Stay hydrated
🌳 Seek shade
😊 Take care of yourselves in the heat!

The air taxi from Malaga Airport to various points along the Costa del Sol and Andalucia could become a reality in just one year. Currently, the technology and the need for alternative routes to the always crowded Costa del Sol road already exist. With the current drone models, an air taxi flight to Marbella could be completed in just over 15 minutes, flying at a speed close to 175 mph, with a capacity of 5 passengers plus the pilot. It would run 100% on electric power, and it is anticipated that in the medium term, the flights will be self-piloted, eliminating the need for a human pilot. It is estimated that the first tests will take place in the second half of 2025. Undoubtedly, this is a good alternative to avoid the traffic congestion on the coastal road that causes so much inconvenience in summer, but it will require some brave pioneers to be the first to try the service. Best regards.

🌧️ Incoming Weather Alert for the Costa del Sol! 🌧️

We have a cut-off low heading our way. Here’s what you need to know:

🌬️ What is a cut-off low?

An isolated atmospheric depression.
Brings cooler temperatures at high altitudes.
When it meets the warm, moist air from the sea, it can cause locally heavy rains and storms.

🌦️ What to Expect:

Not all areas in Málaga will see rain on the morning of June 27.
Some spots on the Costa del Sol might experience intense rain and thunderstorms.
Eastern parts of the province could also see storms on Friday morning.

☀️ The Good News:

The weekend promises a return to clear skies and the warm temperatures we love! 🌞
Stay safe and enjoy the weather changes!

Best regards

The night of San Juan (next Sunday, from June 23 to 24), as celebrated on the beaches of Andalusia, has pagan origins in the celebration of the beginning of summer. It is a night of bonfires, rituals, celebration, and festivity, and above all, a very entertaining and special night where people of all ages enjoy the shortest night of the year. Bonfires are common, symbolizing the burning of the old to make way for the new. Traditionally, taking a dip in the sea is also part of this celebration, and some even believe that washing your face with seawater will make you more beautiful. This is one of the many legends and myths surrounding this special night that we hope you can enjoy with lots of fun while being mindful of excesses. Many towns along the Costa del Sol organize events, so find your favorite beach or the nearest event and welcome summer as it deserves. Best regards.
