Free Tour Guide Mallorca / Majorca Want someone to show you round Palma for a couple of hours, or the whole island of Mallorca for a day? That's what I do.

Or just get a 5-minute demonstration in person of how the buses work?

I talked to Ollie from the Majorca-Mallorca podcast and blog about the forthcoming eclipse: https://open.spotify.com/episode/6S1D71S2KWsdQOK1PuEGqO

There is an error in the discussion that I should disclose here. In the episode I mention two safe ways to follow the progress of the moon across the sun. The one with the Pringles tube is fine. The one with your phone's front-facing camera is safe for you, but might not be good for the camera's semiconductors. So if you try this, maybe use a... drum-roll please... burner phone.

Did you know that the wooden train to Sóller has a first-class compartment?

There are 12 comfortable seats (two armchairs, two 2-person sofas, and two 3-person sofas). They are much kinder on the passenger's derrière than the bench seats, which are either wooden or minimally upholstered. There is also vastly more legroom.

Amazingly, there is no extra charge to ride in this compartment; it's available to anyone on a first-come, first-served basis. You just have to work out how to get to it before the other 300 or so people who will be taking the train.

I don't want to make the exact method too public, so no spoilers in the replies please. However, if you DM me, and promise to make a small donation to the charity that this page supports (https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=pfbid0wubHyfYwYFQfbD1nwc1CTiLFojqAEmUQXB5LgHNQ99VzXsSFSpEXFRVGR95p4xSPl&id=61563615153343) if you are successful, I will reveal all!

By popular demand 😉 I will once again be guiding a free 2-hour walking tour of Palma entitled "Secrets Of The Old Town" this Thursday (28 August) and next week Wednesday (3 September). Both residents and visitors are welcome. I can pretty much guarantee that even if you live in Palma and think you know it well, you will learn a few interesting things.

Bring water and sun protection. You need to be able to walk about 3km and to climb a few gentle slopes and a couple of stairs.

The tour will be mainly in English, but if necessary I can explain some of the points in French or Dutch, and at a stretch German (naja, "man spricht Deutsh") or (very slowly) Spanish.

Unlike other "free" walking tours where you are expected to tip at the end, this one is totally free. All I ask is that if you enjoy it, you consider making an online donation (IBAN or PayPal) to Associació Tardor, a local charity that helps the poor and homeless of the island with shelter, hot meals, and a food bank. (I don't have to know how much, or even if you gave anything. That's between you and your conscience.)

The meeting point will be outside C&A at the intersection of c/Unió and c/Sant Jaume at 10am. Please DM me here or by WhatsApp at +34605683655 to confirm that you are coming, and on which day. And feel free to share this post widely.

If you can't make it this time, I will probably run the same tour a couple of times in October, but I don't have dates yet. Feel free to contact me if you might be interested.

Hopefully the heatwave will be over by then, but bring water and sun protection anyway. You need to be able to walk about 3km and to climb a few gentle slopes and a couple of stairs.

If my input has made your trip to Mallorca better, please consider making a donation of any size to Associació Tardor, a wonderful organisation that helps poor and/or homeless people on the island.
