Hotels vs apartments
What is better for a family?

Let’s take a look at the pros and cons of hotels.

Pros:
⁃ Breakfast or sometimes even all the meals are included;
⁃ Daily housekeeping service.
Cons:
⁃ Rooms are rarely equipped with all the necessary appliances. For example, dirty things have to be carried to the laundry;
⁃ There is less space than in the apartments;
⁃ Food does not always meet the needs of all family members;
⁃ The kitchen in the rooms is not well-equipped and does not allow you to cook what you want;
⁃ Wi-Fi is usually intermittent so it may not be enough to watch movies or TV shows.

Here are the pros and cons of apartments:

Cons:
⁃ You should keep an apartment clean and throw out garbage yourself. Your peace and space won’t be disturbed by the housemaid though;
⁃ No food is included in the price which means you won’t have to overpay for something you don’t want to eat.
Pros:
⁃ Spacious enough for a whole family to relax the way everybody wants;
⁃ Apartments are well-equipped for a comfortable living, for example, with washing machines and dishwashers;
⁃ The kitchens are equipped with everything to make cooking easy and simple;
⁃ Wi-Fi in our apartments is stable. You can watch Netflix all day long.

The choice is yours 😉

What do you usually choose for a holiday with the whole family? A hotel or an apartment?

Asking for Directions in Spanish

If you get a bit lost or unsure of how to get somewhere, you need some simple ways of finding how to find your way. “¿Dónde está?” is the simplest way of asking for directions. For example:

▪️¿Dónde está la estación de ferrocarril? (DOHN-des-TAH la ays-ta-see-OHN day fay-roh-cahr–REEL) — Where is the bus train station?

▪️¿Dónde hay un restaurante? (DOHN-day eye oon rays-toe-RAHN-tay?) — Where is a restaurant?

A few more locations you might need to ask directions to include:

▪️Un tren (oon trayn) — A train

▪️ La calle… (lah CAH-yay…) — The street…

▪️ Un banco (oon BAHN-coh) — A bank

▪️ El baño (el BAN-yoh) — The bathroom

Here are a few other ways to ask for directions in Spanish:

▪️Busco un hotel (BOO-scoh oon oh-TEL) — I’m looking for a hotel

▪️Yo necesito… (yoh nay-say-SEE-toh…) — I need…

▪️Yo necesito un hotel / un cuarto / un cuarto con baño (yoh nay-say-SEE-toh oon oh-TAYL, oon CWAR-toh, oon CWAR-toh cohn BAN-yoh) — I need a hotel / a room / a room with a bathroom

▪️¿Dónde hay una casa de cambio? (DOHN-day eye OON-ah CAH-sah day CAHM-bee-oh?) — Where is the exchange?

▪️¿Dónde está el banco? (DOHN-des-TAH ayl BAHN-coh?) — Where is the bank?

Once you have asked a question, someone will answer you in Spanish. Here are some simple directions that someone may give you in response. Listen for these key words:

▪️A la derecha (a lah day-RAY-chah) — To the right

▪️A la izquierda (ah lah eez-kee-AYR-dah) — To the left

▪️Derecho (Day-RAY-choh) — Straight ahead

▪️En la esquina (a lah ays-KEE-nah) — At the corner

▪️A una cuadra, a dos, tres, cuatro cuadras (a oona CWAH-drah, a dohss, a trayss, CWAH-troh CWAH-drahs) — In one, two, three, four blocks

Should I rent a car at the airport? Or should I choose shuttle service?

Let's think about the pros and cons.

Rent a car at the airport after the flight:

Pros
➕you’ll save time in the future - you can rent a car for the whole trip, if you’re going to travel around the Spain by car.

Cons
➖ it can take a lot of time to fill in the papers - from 30 minutes to 2 hours after arrival;
➖ filing papers can be tiring, especially if you come with the whole family;
➖ If you don’t know the peculiarities of roads and traffic in Spain, you can get lost and spend more time getting to your home than planned.

Transfer:

➕ no need to think about anything after arrival;
➕ the route of the trip is the shortest and, of course, safe, built in advance by the driver;
➕ no worrying about parking, the amount of petrol in the tank, the technical condition of the car.

➖If you’re going to travel every day by car, you still have to rent a car. But on the other hand, you’ll do it already being rested and refreshed.

If you ask us, we believe that it would better to choose transfer for a comfortable arrival with your family. By the way, we organize a transfer from the airport and deliver comfortably to the apartment. In case you want to rent a car, we are happy to help you to find a good rental service.

Pleasure before business. It could be a Spanish version of a popular English saying.

What is it about? Is it about one of the most notable aspects of Spanish life: “siesta” and “fiesta”. What is the difference between these words and what do they mean?

Siesta is a dead period in the late afternoon when everything shuts down in Spain. The Spanish can take a nap after lunch and be with family. Bars, restaurants and other sights admired by tourists are closed in siesta. It is especially common in small towns. Siesta for shops and businesses is from about 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. Siesta for bars and restaurants is from about 4 p.m. until around 8 p.m. or 9 p.m.

Fiesta is when no one is sleeping, but on the contrary, everyone is celebrating. Fiesta can cover entire regions if it is a national holiday or it can be a celebration in a small village. At this time everyone is dancing, drinking wine, launching fireworks. Of course, nothing is open.

If you met a closed door during a walk in Spain, then here is what we can advise:
✅ try to find out the schedule of the place you want to go in advance
✅ if siesta or fiesta is unavoidable, try to stop, relax and feel the Spanish rhythm of life.

Coronavirus in Spain: latest news

Will the restrictions be lifted? Unfortunately not. 😢 The Catalan authorities announced new restrictions that will take effect on January 7th.

❌ Residents in Catalonia will not be allowed to leave their municipality of residence for 10 days from January 7 and until January 17, including all days of the week.

❌ Shopping malls will be forced to close again from January 7. Only shops of up to 400 sqm will be allowed to open on weekdays, but retail will have to remain closed at the weekend except for those providing essential goods.

❌ Bars and restaurants will continue only to be allowed to open from 7am to 9.30am and from 1pm to 3.30pm. In the evening, take away and delivery services are only permitted.

❌ As for theatres, cinemas and concert halls, they can open at 50% capacity with a maximum capacity of 1,000 people, as long as there is sufficient ventilation and access is controlled, otherwise, the capacity remains at 500.

❌ Gyms and sports centers. They can open at 30% capacity indoors by appointment only for low-intensity sports that are compatible with face mask use except for swimming, which will also be permitted. Other activities will have to take place outdoors, where there is a 50% capacity limit.

We believe and expect: someday this nightmare is over.😔
