Heads up for those of you on the island currently. The police are having a campaign this weekend to ensure mask wearing rules are being adhered to. There is a €100 fine for anyone not complying.
The rules are pretty straightforward:
1/ Everyone 6 years and over should wear a mask in indoor public areas (shops for example.)
2/ You only need to wear a mask outdoors if you can't social distance to 1.5 metres - pretty rare here in Lanzarote.
3/ In bars and restaurants, you should wear a mask on entering, using the rest rooms, or leaving. But you can remove it when sitting at your table, which will be socially distanced.
So, make sure you always have one with you, stick to the rules, and if in doubt about whether you can keep 1.5 metres away from others, put it on, to be on the safe side.
You don't need to wear a mask out walking generally, on the beach, around the pool etc.
It's important that we all follow these rules, which will continue to keep Lanzarote one of the safest places on the planet from Coronavirus, and if we do, it will mean the mask rules won't be tightened here, as they have in other parts of Spain.
