*Day 7* Caminho de Santiago #2
Padrón > Santiago de Compostela

A Day of Arrival, Reflection, and Quiet Joy

We made it.
After days of walking, hoping, sweating, laughing, and sometimes aching — we stood once again before the Cathedral of Santiago.

And yet… it’s hard to find the words.

There’s no dramatic ending. No big fanfare. Just this deep, quiet sense of something sacred being completed. The kind of feeling that lives more in your chest than in your head.

This journey has been so much more than kilometers and destinations. It's been about showing up each day, with sore feet and open hearts, and trusting the path — even when we didn’t know what was ahead. The people, the landscapes, the surprises — all of it stitched together into something unforgettable.

I feel **grateful beyond words**.
For the strength in my body.
For the kindness of strangers.
For the privilege of walking this path not just once, but again.
For the challenge, the beauty, the magic.

There’s a kind of ache in knowing it’s over — for now. But I know this truth deep in my bones:

The Camino never really ends.

It walks with you. Quietly. Always.

Three things I’ll carry with me:

1. You’re stronger than you think. More than once, I doubted — and kept going anyway.
2. Every step matters. Even the slow, messy, or painful ones — maybe especially those.
3. Gratitude is the real reward. Not the arrival, not the stamp — just being here, truly here.

*Day 6* Caminho de Santiago #2
Ponte Arnelas > Padrón

A Day of Hope, Serendipity, and Full-Circle Moments

We set out today with open hearts but no real expectations — just a quiet hope that somehow, things would work out. Our goal was to catch the boat from Vila Nova de Arousa, the one that follows the *Traslatio* route — the only maritime leg of the Camino. But despite days of calling, texting, and checking online, every seat seemed gone. Still, we walked on, trusting that the Camino would, as always, unfold in its own way.

Arriving at the docks, we saw a boat just pulling away. It felt like we’d missed our shot — but we called anyway, just in case. The woman on the phone confirmed our fears: the last boat had just left. We were already bracing ourselves for a taxi ride when, only minutes later, the phone rang again.

The boat was turning back to get us.

Magic? Maybe. Camino? Definitely.

And the surprises didn’t end there — the captain was the same kind soul who took us last year. His name? Santiago. Fitting, right? He greeted us with a warm smile like old friends returning, and suddenly, we were gliding across the water, pilgrims once more, watching the world pass slowly by.

Reaching Padrón felt like coming home. We tried our luck at the public albergue, and once again, the Camino provided. Beds were waiting. We were meant to be here.

As the day faded, a familiar feeling settled in — the bittersweet ache of knowing tomorrow is the last stage. And yet, walking into Padrón, I felt it again: that deep connection to this path, as though some part of me has always belonged here.

Once on the Camino, forever part of it.

Three truths from today’s walk:

1. Hope matters. Even when everything says no, believe in the yes you haven’t seen yet.
2. The Camino remembers. People, places, and even captains find their way back to you.
3. Gratitude expands. The more we’re thankful for, the more we’re given — in ways we can’t plan.

*Day 5* Caminho de Santiago #2
Pontevedra > Ponte Arnelas

ADay of Kindness, Beauty, and Resilience

Today’s walk was nothing short of magical. Leaving Pontevedra behind, we followed the Ruta de Piedra y Água, a path that truly lives up to its name. Winding beside the river for kilometers, the sound of rushing water and the shade of ancient trees offered moments of peace amid the physical challenge. Every turn felt like a gift – stone mills, wooden bridges, and tranquil forest trails that seemed pulled from a fairytale.

As the day stretched on, the sun beat down harder, and our packs felt heavier. Still, we kept going, driven by something deeper than stamina – maybe it's purpose, or maybe it's the sheer will that the Camino draws out of you.

Arriving in Ponte Arnelas, tired and dusty, we were met with a full hostel. But in true Camino spirit, kindness showed up once again: generous locals welcomed us into their B\&B. As if that weren’t enough, we stumbled upon a private beach tucked away near a hidden waterfall — the kind of place that feels like a secret only the Camino reveals.

This journey continues to surprise me. The people, the landscape, and the strength we find within ourselves each day leave me humbled and grateful.

Three things I’m learning on this Camino:

1. Kindness is everywhere. Strangers become family, and generosity knows no bounds on this path.
2. The body is stronger than the mind believes. Pain, heat, exhaustion — and still, we keep going.
3. Let go of control. When plans fall through, something better often awaits. The Camino provides, in its own mysterious way.

*Day 4* Caminho de Santiago #2
Redondela > Pontevedra

Today was another beautiful walk from Redondela to Pontevedra. The Camino still offers its quiet beauty — the forests, the rivers, the fresh air — all still here. But something feels different. The path is crowded, hurried… pilgrims walking fast, eyes ahead, chasing beds in busy albergues. It’s harder to pause, to breathe, to feel the silence between the steps.

Last March felt different — quieter, more spacious. More presence.

But maybe it’s not just the Camino that’s changed. Maybe it’s me. Maybe I’m not as present this time, still carrying too much in my head, not fully here. Not yet. Maybe I can’t connect until I let go.

Something isn’t quite the same.

Santiago… what are you trying to teach me this time?

*Day 2* Caminho de Santiago #2
Caminha-> Tui

Today we left Caminha behind and followed the stunning ecopista that runs along the northern edge of Portugal — a dream route hugging the Rio Minho, made for cycling and soaking in nature’s calm.

Instead of heading up the coast toward Baiona and Vigo, we turned inland toward Tui, drawn by its deep connection to Santiago and the layers of story it holds. Crossing into Spain felt symbolic — a quiet but meaningful shift on the Camino.

*Day 3* Caminho Santiago #2
Tui -> Redondela 🚶‍♀️🥾

Today was a powerful blend of the past and present. As I left Tui and made my way toward Redondela, I joined the central route — a path I’d walked before. With each step, memories of the previous climb came rushing back. I remembered the sweat, the struggle, the doubts… and yet, this time, it felt different.

The trail was still challenging, but not in the same way. It was less about the terrain and more about the quiet reflection that came with revisiting an old, difficult journey — and realizing how much I’ve changed since then.

Funny how the Camino doesn’t just test your legs, but your heart and head too. 💭

Grateful for the road, the lessons, and the strength that builds slowly, day by day.

*Day 10* Vila Nova de Arousa - Santiago de Compostela

Three lessons from this walk:

- Vila Nova de Arousa - Padrón. This path is 24km by boat. You will see the famous "Cruzes de Piedra" and the nautic part from where the body of Santiago has travelled before reaching the cathedral. This part is great for learning, meditation and resting. While you are on the boat, enjoy the views, connect with other pilgrims and rest your feet. These will be the easiest 24km of the trip.

When reaching to Padrón go to the church
The Padrón where the boat was tight remains there, and is the the church with more images of the same saint. Needless to say is Santiago. Stunning church. Lovely People (as always)

- Saudade. This is a Portuguese word with no translation. It means something like missing something/someone. You will miss the Camiño, the walk, the people, the days, everything...

You do the Camiño until Santiago, and Santiago will light up your Camiño for life.

Once in the Camiño forever part of it.

Most of pilgrims do get the Camiño bug, so allow yourself to be vulnerable and emotional. Is a very spiritual and special feeling.

- Santiago de Compostela. For most of pilgrims this is the aim of all trip. Getting to the square in front of the cathedral. Others want to go to the Pilgrim mass or hug Santiago figure. Others Keep going to Finisterra. Either way.

Getting your backpack down and just starring at the cathedral is magic. Some people cry, others just jump on happiness, I can't tell you what you'll feel. I just encourage you to go.

Don't be afraid, go alone, go with friends, take your bag, or send through the carrier, eat in supermarkets or in restaurant, sleep in albergues or 5stars hotels. Go with 10years old or do it with 74. I encourage everyone doing it!

I got there on the 18 March 2024 around 18h after almost 54km (24km by boat) that day and a LOT of rain.

Today, 2 days later, I am already missing it.

For now, I wish you all Bom Caminho to Santiago de Compostela or Bom Caminho para a Vida.

Step by step but keep going 💪

*Day 9* Armenteira-Vila Nova de Arousa

Three lessons from this walk:

- Disconnect. Armenteira is such a gem in the Camiño! Barely no shops, a few houses, a monastery and stunning nature. "Ruta da Pedra y da Auga" is unforgettable. Use your eyes to capture as much as possible around you. Is not every day you'll walk in such a scenario.

- Food. If you are a pilgrim travelling in low budget you will probably be eating a lot of sandwiches and supermarket food. Avoiding restaurants or eating out. Either way don't forget to treat yourself. A lovely warm meal is very much needed. Specially when you are walking so many km's a day. You're body will Thank you.

- History. Santiago de Compostela is not only a saint and people decide to do the Camiños because is cool. No! There's loads of history and information on the Camiño, Santiago as a Saint, the churches and cathedrals, the towns and villages you go through, get yourself informed and you will not only become more knowledgeable but live and see the Camiño with other eyes 🙏🏼

*Day 8* Pontevedra-Armenteira

Three lessons from this walk:

- Variante Espiritual. Camiño de Santiago has SO MANY routes, but there is something magical about the Variante Espiritual, so when you get to those two arrows in Pontevedra, make sure you turn left. You won't regret it. Travel the least common path and you will find so much beauty in it.

- Beach & Mountains. The most beautiful cities in the world have both beach and mountains, this path will allow you just that. Whilst you enjoy a lovely walk at the sea level take time to appreciate the sea and maybe have a stop for a snack or pic nic at the beach, this will allow you to recharge and getting ready for the walk up in the mountain. Once you are in the mountain, right at the top have a rest at the top. The view is breathtaking.

- Lemons. "When life give you lemons make lemonade" 🍋 (literally). During all path there are LOADS of lemons, so keep hydrated with water, and why not with a lemonade? A fresh lemonade at the end of a walk is refreshing. Enjoy!

*Day 7* Redondela-Pontevedra

Three lessons from this walk:

- Have a break. This stage is rough. Similarly in life we all need a break, stop sometime, get the shoes off and rest. Enjoy the view, breath and recharge for a bit more. Respect your body, rest when it asks you to.

- Let things go. Rocks, Stones and other material things are left all the way across the Camiño de Santiago, with various meanings or with no meanings at all, what is just heavyweight in your life let go. In Portuguese we say 'desapegar', so anything that does not serve you anymore, it could be things, relationships or work...just let it go.

- Art and 5 senses. During all the Camiño you will see various people who draw the stamps, Street art, art in the nature and the beauty of a poem or songs. Embracing and appreciating these moments will make you more present. So actually look and see art with all it's derail, listen to songs or stories, taste lovely food or any cravings you might be having, smell the nature around you and eucalyptus trees, feel the fresh water from the fountains or the fresh air in your face.

*Day 6* Tui-Redondela

Three lessons from this walk:

- Test your body. Our body is an incredible and beautiful organisation full of strength and capacity. You can walk and do so much more than what you would expect... Get to know yourself, physically, mentally. You define your limits, respect your body and when it says no, learn to slow down and stop. Even if that means carrying on by yourself. Everyone is doing their Camiño, do your own at your pace.

- Celebrate each other. As you go through the Camiño you will see and meet People who you might not see again for days, but when you see them is such a nice friendly face to hug, to cheer, to celebrate! The Camiño to Santiago is different for everyone but we are all together in the Camiño of life.

- Free yourself. During the Camiño you will have time to play, cry, laugh, scream, and do so much more. Free that tension , laugh out loud, scream at the top of your lungs in the middle of the mountain, play games with other people... Free yourself from fears of dogs, travelling alone, cows, boats, anything. Just accept and keep going one step in front of the other.

14/03/2024

*Day 5* Labruja - Tui

Three lessons from this walk:

- This is the most difficult part of the Camiño, but is also the most beautiful! The peace and connection to the nature is something that is very much needed nowadays with everyone rushing all the time constantly. So be more present!

- Time: the most important asset you have in life. Time to enjoy with friends and family, time to see the world, time to live.. make the most out of it. In the Camiño if you reach Valença the exta 50mint until Tui Will save you a very important hour in the next day. So cross that bridge between Portugal and Spain and avoid "losing" 1hr in the next day.

- Speak with strangers, you might find out funny coincidences like..they might be your neighbours. I have met a neighbour in the Camiño. Who literally lives 10mint from my house. You will have fun in the Camiño, so enjoy it.
