Italian Investment in Ethiopia Reaches €723 Million
Following Ethiopia's market liberalization process and economic reform efforts, it has been announced that Italian investment in Ethiopia has reached €723 million.
This milestone shows the country is becoming more attractive for international business and long-term partnerships.
As economic cooperation between the two nations grows, it is expected to be reflected at the "Big 5 Construct Ethiopia" international construction exhibition, held April 23–25, 2026, at the Addis Ababa International Convention Center.
More than 20 Italian companies are slated to participate in the dedicated Italian Pavilion. Ethiopia has been selected as a priority country under the Italian government’s "Mattei Plan."
This strategic initiative focuses on sustainable development and economic partnerships with African nations. Under this framework, Italy has already allocated €25 million toward job creation and economic growth.
Currently, there are approximately 150 Italian companies engaged in trade and investment activities within Ethiopia, signaling a shift from simple trade exchanges to deep industrial collaboration.
Claudio Pasqualucci, Director of the Italian Trade Agency (ITA), noted, "We are witnessing the convergence of Italian technology and Ethiopia's development aspirations.
Our presence at Big 5 Construct is not just about showcasing products, but about strengthening our position in one of Africa's most promising markets."
High-level highlights of the event will include a strategic briefing by Carlo Di Andrea (AP Consulting Group FZE), which will outline the legal and procedural landscape for new investors.
Additionally, the Italian Trade Agency and the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) will lead in-depth discussions focused on infrastructure opportunities.
