Dyster läsning för oss som besökte Georgien.
Georgia's regime shut down its best university, criminalized foreign funding, and made it illegal to protest on a sidewalk more than once-all in a matter of weeks.
Ilia State University lost 92% of its admissions overnight. The new Grants Law threatens up to 12 years in prison for receiving Western funding. Opposition leaders face 7-to-15-year sentences for advocating sanctions against Russia-which still occupies 20% of Georgian territory.
Georgians have protested daily for 450 days straight. The regime's response isn't targeted repression-it's going after everything at once: universities, NGOs, pharmacies, car imports, the daily fabric of ordinary life.
That's not the behavior of a regime in control. The Georgian Dream has no ideology, no security apparatus, no stable patron. Policy researcher Hans Gutbrod calls it "nihilistic totalitarianism"-total control with zero positive vision.
The crackdown is rushed and brittle. The question is whether the world notices before it's too late.
