Who is responsible for VGM (Verified Gross Mass)?
Before a container can be loaded onto a vessel, SOLAS regulations require the shipper to provide a Verified Gross Mass (VGM). Failure to submit an accurate VGM can result in cargo rollovers, delays, additional costs, and safety risks at the terminal.
Key points:
➡️ VGM is mandatory for all packed export containers.
➡️The shipper named on the Bill of Lading is responsible for providing the VGM.
➡️Incorrect or late VGM submissions may cause containers to miss the intended vessel.
➡️Accurate weight declarations contribute to supply chain safety and compliance.
