🇬🇧 Looking ahead to winter ❄️🐾

Now is a good time to start looking ahead to the coming winter. Wolverines don't slow down even in freezing temperatures, but carry on with their winter activities just as they do in summer. Golden eagles and white-tailed eagles are also active in our area throughout the winter. 🦅

If you'd like to see and photograph a wolverine in its winter element, now is the time to put on your booking mittens and get in touch! 🧤 We can plan an individual package to suit your winter trip.

Daylight is limited in midwinter, so we warmly recommend staying for several days to give yourself the best chance of wildlife encounters. 📸❄️

🇬🇧 The turning of the seasons 🍂

September brings visible changes to nature. Daylight hours shorten rapidly, the colours shift further towards autumn, moisture increases and frosty nights become possible. For both photographers and wildlife observers, autumn is a wonderful time to enjoy nature’s changing palette and the changing activity of its inhabitants. 📸🌿

Wolverines remain active throughout autumn and can also be seen during the day. Bears, however, are most often active during the darker hours, making the effective viewing and photography window shorter.

During September, we head to the hides noticeably earlier to make the most of the available daylight. Around the turn of September and October, we gradually move from overnight stays towards daytime visits. The arrangements can be discussed individually when making a booking. 🐾

🇫🇮 Vuodenkierto taittuu syksyksi 🍂

Syyskuu tuo tullessaan näkyviä muutoksia luontoon. Valoisa aika lyhenee hurjasti, värimaailma taittuu yhä enemmän ruskan sävyihin, kosteus lisääntyy ja yöpakkaset alkavat olla mahdollisia. Sekä kuvaajille että muille luonnon tarkkailijoille syksy on loistavaa aikaa nauttia luonnon muuttuvasta värikirjosta ja eläinten syystouhuista. 📸🌿

Ahmojen liike pysyttelee syksylläkin aktiivisena ja niitä on mahdollista nähdä myös päivällä. Karhujen liike painottuu useimmiten hämärään ja pimeään, joten tehokas katselu- ja kuvausaika on aiempaa selvästi lyhyempi.

Syyskuun aikana aikaistamme kojuille lähtöä huomattavasti, jotta valoisaa havainnointiaikaa jäisi riittävästi. Syys-lokakuun vaihteessa siirrymme liukuvasti yön yli kestävistä varauksista päivätoimintaan. Näistä käytännöistä voidaan sopia tilanne- ja asiakaskohtaisesti varauksen yhteydessä. 🐾

The bear hunting season in Lieksa has now come to an end, and we are once again taking bookings as normal. There are still opportunities to visit our hides in the coming days and weeks, as well as further ahead.

🇬🇧 Wolverine cub races & a little new design 🐾

There is always something happening on the wolverine front! At Uuronlampi, we've been lucky enough to see some very playful wolverine youngsters. They may already be quite big for cubs, but that certainly doesn't slow them down. Quite the opposite!

The wolverine youngsters can turn almost anywhere into a racetrack – including the walkway of the viewing cabin, just to make things a little more challenging for the photographers and wildlife watchers. 🐾 And apparently even the cabin's broom got a little new design along the way. At least it's certainly one of a kind! 😄

Otherwise, wolverine activity has been fairly normal. Wolves make occasional appearances, while bear activity has been quieter. We are waiting for the hunting season to end and will share a separate update once the bear hunt is over.

🇫🇮 Mukelorallia ja uutta designia 🐾

Ahmarintamalla sattuu ja tapahtuu! Uuronlammella on päästy näkemään touhukkaita ahmanpentuja. Ne ovat jo varsin kookkaita pennuksi, m***a menoahan se ei mitenkään hidasta. Päinvastoin!

Mukelorallit voidaan pistää pystyyn vaikka katselukämpän kulkusillalle, jotta katselijoiden ja kuvaajienkaan homma ei liian helpoksi kävisi. 🐾 Samalla taisi saada kämpän harjanvarsikin hieman uutta designia osakseen. Ainakin se on persoonallinen! 😄

Muutoin ahmaliikenne on ollut kohtuullisen normaalia. Susia vilahtelee paikalla silloin tällöin, m***a karhujen osalta on ollut hiljaisempaa. Odottelemme metsästyksen päättymistä ja tiedotamme vielä erikseen, kunhan karhujahti on ohitse.

🇬🇧 Towards new encounters 🐾

Another August week is turning towards the weekend. Wolverines have been moving around as usual, and wolves also made an appearance last night. 🐺

Bear hunting may have some effect on wildlife movements for the time being, but we expect its impact to ease next week.

Let's see what the weekend and the coming week will bring. ✨

Jälleen yksi elokuinen viikko on taittumassa viikonloppuun. Ahmoja on liikuskellut tuttuun tapaan, ja viime yönä myös sudet piipahtivat paikalla. 🐺

Karhunmetsästyksellä saattaa toistaiseksi olla vaikutusta eläinten liikkeisiin, m***a odotamme sen vaikutuksen loppuvan ensi viikon aikana.

Katsotaan siis, mitä viikonloppu ja ensi viikko tuovat tullessaan. ✨

🇬🇧 The young wolverines are growing up 🐾

August and September bring visible changes to the nature around Lieksa. The colours gradually shift towards the many shades of autumn. 🍂 Bears begin their autumn feeding before winter, while wolverine mothers are preparing to wean their cubs born in late winter. During the summer, those little cubs have grown into impressive young wolverines. They are already spending more time on their own, though often more cautiously than when travelling with their mother.

Their almost flawless coats are one of the easiest ways to recognise a young wolverine – there simply hasn't been much time for scars to appear. Early autumn can therefore be a particularly good time to see several wolverines together. 🐾

Bear hunting season begins on Thursday. Increased human activity in the forests and changes in bear movements may also affect wildlife activity around our hides, including wolverines. We hope the overall impact will remain limited.

🇫🇮 Ahmanuoret kasvavat vauhdilla 🐾

Elo-syyskuussa Lieksan luonnossa tapahtuu näkyviä muutoksia. Värimaailma kääntyy yhä enemmän kohti ruskan sävyjä. 🍂 Nallet aloittavat syystankkauksen ennen talvea, ja ahmaemot valmistautuvat vieroittamaan kevättalvella syntyneet pentunsa. Kesän aikana pennuista on kasvanut kauniita sekä komeita ahmanuoria. Ne liikkuvat jo enemmän yksinään, m***a ovat usein varovaisempia kuin emon seurassa.

Nuoren ahman tunnistaa usein lähes virheettömästä turkista – arpiakaan ei ole vielä ennättänyt kertyä. Alkava syksy voikin olla erityisen hyvää aikaa nähdä useampia ahmoja kerralla. 🐾

Torstaina alkava karhunmetsästys lisää liikennettä metsissä ja saattaa vaikuttaa myös eläinten liikkeisiin kojuillamme. Toivomme, että vaikutus jää vähäiseksi.
