Bittium has received purchase orders from the Finnish Defence Forces for system support of the Bittium Tough SDR Handheld and Vehicular radios, designed for tactical communication, as well as for the Bittium Tactical Wireless IP Network™ (TAC WIN) software‑defined radio system. The purchase orders apply to the year 2026 and include technical support for the systems, software and security updates and system support management. The value of the purchase orders is approximately EUR 5 million.

Bittium has also received a purchase order from the Finnish Defence Forces for TAC WIN system and Bittium Tough VoIP™ communication system devices. The purchase order includes TAC WIN systems’ tactical routers, radio heads, and Bittium Tough Comnode™ devices. The value of the purchase order is approximately EUR 2.4 million and is delivered during 2026.

In modern communications systems, software plays a central role. The system support ensures that the radios and system remain up to date against evolving operational requirements and emerging threats.

What if the radios soldiers already carry could detect a drone overhead, pick up an explosion nearby, and automatically find the best route through a degraded network — all without the soldier doing a thing?

That is what Bittium and NestAI are building together.

The partnership integrates NestAI's NestOS AI platform into two Bittium products: Bittium Tough SDR radios and Bittium FUSOR. Two capabilities are in development. The first makes FUSOR smarter, automatically choosing the best available connection across tactical and civilian networks based on live conditions and operational rules. The second adds AI to Bittium Tough SDR radios, using their existing microphones as sensors to detect drone activity, explosions and other events, feeding that information into a real-time operational picture.

Everything runs on the device. No cloud dependency. No data leaving the unit. No new hardware to procure or carry.

The way military vehicles communicate is changing.

For years, vehicle intercom systems have operated in isolation, closed analog loops, cut off from everything happening beyond the hull. Today we are launching something that changes this fundamentally.

Bittium MissionNet is a next generation networked intercom solution that connects vehicle crews directly into the tactical IP network. That means vehicle crews, dismounted soldiers, sensors and unmanned systems can all share voice and data on the same infrastructure, in real time.

We are also introducing the Bittium Tough PTT™ a rugged push-to-talk device built for exactly this environment. Even two devices can form a distributed voice network on their own, with no external infrastructure needed. Less complexity. More resilience.

Bittium has received a significant purchase order from the Finnish Defence Forces for Bittium Tough SDR Handheld and Vehicular radios and related accessories. The value of the purchase order is approximately EUR 14 million, and the product deliveries will take place during the year 2026.

“Modern military operations require high performance, resilience, and seamless connectivity from communications systems. Tough SDR radios, together with the TAC WIN system, support these needs. The solution enables the creation and sharing of a situational picture in demanding and dynamic operational environments, supporting effective command and control of forces at all levels,” says Tommi Kangas, Senior Vice President of Bittium’s Defence & Security business segment.

The front line and the command centre have long relied on different communications systems. Capable in isolation. Disconnected from each other. That gap in situational awareness has real operational consequences.
