The Easter bonfire is an Ostrobothnian tradition. In Ostrobothnia, a large bonfire, “valakia,” is built together, which is lit on Eastern Saturday. The bonfires were used to drive out witches. The larger the bonfire, the thicker the smoke and the less visibility the witches had to fly.
