In Finnish, the month of July is called heinäkuu, which literally means "hay month".

Traditionally, July is the time when hay is harvested for livestock feed 🚜

According to Finnish folklore, "On Hermanni's Day (12 July), people head to the hayfields, and on Jaakko's Day (25 July), the scythe is hung on the wall," marking the end of the hay harvest.

After the haymaking season, people traditionally begin making dried birch browse for winter feed 🍃
