Most travelers know Zagreb for its Cathedral and Upper Town.

But just a few steps away, Tkalčićeva Street reveals another side of the city — more human, more unexpected, and full of hidden stories. 🚶‍♀️✨

Today, it is one of Zagreb’s liveliest café and bar streets.
But in the past, this neighborhood had a very different identity, shaped by taverns, nightlife, brothels, and the women who lived and worked behind its windows.

Look for the “Woman at the Window” sculpture.
She is not a queen, a saint, or a hero.
She represents a forgotten part of Zagreb’s social history — a reminder that a city is not only made of monuments, churches, and grand squares, but also of ordinary lives and untold stories.
