How do you decide on the right deck for your boat?

When clients are ordering a new boat (or planning a re-fit), they spend a lot of time considering many of the technical and comfort options before making the final decision. What electronics, rig and sail configuration, motor, interior comfort options etc, but one element that really does not get the same level of consideration is the deck.
Generally, many constructors only have three options, white non-slip gelcoat, teak or plastic “fake teak”. The decision is generally made on the aesthetic and the budget available. However, this element of the boat really requires more consideration, after all you will spend more time in contact with the deck than with any other part of your boat. Your deck as to be elegant but it also has to be comfortable, have excellent non-slip, be easy to look after and for those sailing in hotter climates, it has to stay cool.
As clients begin to think about the deck options, more and more are discovering that a high quality cork deck will out perform all the other options, especially, if like SEACORK, the deck material has a very high cork content.
So, what are the advantages of a SEACORK Deck over the more common options?
well, at the risk of this turning into a long list, here are some of the key points;
It doesn't get hot and is therefore comfortable to walk on barefoot.
It is naturally non-slip.
It is approximately 50% lighter than teak and synthetic teak.
It helps insulate cabins below from heat and noise.
It doesn't stain, as cork is a naturally closed-cell material, so there is no need to worry about a red wine spillage.
It is resistant to impact and damage.
It is durable and will last at least as long as, if not longer than, other deck materials.
It requires no special cleaning products, just a deck brush and seawater.
SEACORK is environmentally friendly and sustainable because the material is produced without damaging or killing the tree, unlike teak.
SEACORK decks are over 90% cork, with a high percentage of this being from recycled sources.

So if you are thinking about deck options for your next boat or for a re-fit project, why not speak to SEACORK. With 25 years of experience we know what makes a good deck!
