Motherhood doesn’t end at 18… or 20… or ever.
About 5 months ago, Ethan tore his ACL doing what he loves most—football (aka soccer) In classic Ethan fashion, he walked off the field with quiet strength, determined to try the conservative route first.
We tried it all- rest, rehab, second (third, fourth!!) opinions from top osteopaths, orthopedic surgeons in California and even Portugal. In the end, surgery was the best next move with a surgeon who only treats the pros but thankfully had a soft spot for Ethan.
Never thought I’d be so educated on the anatomy of the knee… but here we are!
Truthfully, I wasn’t sure I could handle post-op care. They sent him home the same day??!!
but my younger son reminded me:
“Mom, you’ve raised him for 20 years. You’ll be fine.” Thanks for the pep talk,
So here we are—the perfectionist and “super mom” in me has been promoted to 24/7 nurse duty, managing CPM therapy, PT schedules, healthy meals, and a whole lot of deep breaths. Once again, I’m learning that motherhood doesn’t end—it just levels up.
And yes, I’m basically running a wellness retreat… for one.
With the best physical therapists & wellness team by his side, the road to recovery has officially begun—240 days (at least!) until he’s back on the field. ⚽️
I’m beyond proud of Ethan—for entering this next chapter with courage , committing to recovery, and already showing incredible strength and grace.
His story is his to tell—this one’s mine.
