CVA The CVA brings together European cities & firms working in European space transportation.

The Community of Ariane Cities – CVA – was founded in 1998 and registered in France as a non-profit association, with the aim of strengthening the cooperation among cities and industrial organizations involved in European space transportation programmes, and informing citizens about the benefits of European space transportation activities and about French Guiana as the home to Europe’s Spaceport.

CVA organizes programmes with member cities, their universities, educational authorities, schools and industrial companies. The joint programmes are of technical, cultural, educational and outreach nature, stressing the importance of intercultural cooperation, and helping to build longstanding relationships among citizens, especially the younger generations. Each city is usually represented by its local or regional administration, and by an industrial company. Programmes are decided through consensus of the members, who meet as Council of Mayors, the decision-making body chaired by a different city every one or two years. Programme implementation and daily operations are the responsibility of a Bureau and a General Delegation office.

On August 27, Ariane 6 lifted off from Europe’s Spaceport in French Guiana and 36 minutes later, MTG-I2 separated cleanly into geostationary transfer orbit at 2,778 km above the Equator.

From there, the satellite continues its journey to its final home: geostationary orbit at 36,000 km above Earth, where it will scan Europe and Northern Africa every 2.5 minutes for years to come.

On August 27, Ariane 6 will lift off from Europe's Spaceport in French Guiana for a mission unlike any before it, VA270 will be Ariane 6's first flight to geostationary transfer orbit.

On board: MTG-I2, Europe's next-generation weather satellite, built to scan Europe every 2.5 minutes and detect severe storms before they strike.

Three days to go. 🌩

On August 27, Ariane 6 will lift off from Europe's Spaceport in Kourou, carrying MTG-I2 to geostationary transfer orbit. A historic first for Europe's launcher, and its 4th mission of 2026.

Once in orbit at 36,000 km above Earth, MTG-I2 will continuously monitor storm development, cloud formations, and climate patterns, delivering faster and more accurate severe weather warnings across Europe.

We'll close this series the way the Summer School itself ended, with gratitude. 🙏

Three weeks. One city. Dozens of students from across Europe. And an experience none of them will forget.

The 25th CVA Summer School in Rome was made possible by the dedication of everyone involved: students, mentors, partners, and hosts alike.

A heartfelt thank you to Sapienza Università di Roma for welcoming us, to Avio and Thales Alenia Space for opening their facilities, to ESA for the real-world design brief that challenged every team to go further, and to the Metropolitan City of Rome Capitale for making this edition truly special as CVA's Presidency city for 2026.

And above all, thank you to every student who showed up, worked hard, asked the right questions, and reminded us why CVA exists.

You are the next generation of European space professionals. And we can't wait to see where you go from here. 🚀

Behind every launch, there's a factory. And a lot of human ingenuity. 🏭

During the 25th CVA Summer School, participants visited Avio's facilities, getting a first-hand look at how launchers and space propulsion systems actually get built. From solid motors to upper stage components, the teams behind Vega-C and Ariane 6 opened their doors to the next generation.

For many students, it was the first time seeing at close range the hardware they had been studying in lectures. The gap between theory and reality closes fast when you're standing next to a propulsion system.

CVA member city Colleferro is home to Avio and moments like this are exactly why the connection between our cities and the space industry matters.

Three weeks of work. One final presentation. Everything on the line. 🎤

At the 25th CVA Summer School in Rome, each team had to present their conceptual design project to a jury, responding to a real ESA design brief. This year, one team developed PLUTO: a reusable suborbital spaceplane combining jet and rocket propulsion, designed to reach 120 km, deliver nearly 3 minutes of microgravity, and glide back to the runway.

Aerodynamics. Propulsion. Structural constraints. Mission requirements. All integrated into one coherent proposal, by students who had just met three weeks earlier.

This is what the CVA Summer School is really about: not just learning space systems, but learning to think, collaborate, and deliver under pressure. The kind of experience that stays with you long after the diploma. 🚀

Not every classroom has a view like this. 🛰

During the 25th CVA Summer School in Rome, participants visited ESRIN, ESA's European Space Research Institute in Frascati, dedicated to Earth Observation and space data management.

Walking through the facilities where European space programmes operate in practice is something no lecture can replace. Seeing the infrastructure behind satellite data, mission monitoring, and Earth observation gave every student a concrete picture of what working in European space actually looks like.

This is exactly why CVA's Summer School exists: to open doors that most people don't even know are there.
