The Renaissance (arguably) starts here 🕍🏛️… Santa Maria Novella in Firenze, Italy…by architects Bautista and Vasari… Vasari, who so (in)famously came up with the term “Gothic” to describe the style of those messy and “grotesque” cathedrals, lacking in perfect proportion… He helped usher in a new style, re-born from the classical Greek and Roman styles.

Was he right? Who wore it architecturally best? The newly renovated Notre-Dame might like to have a word…

Hello and bonjour and welcome to my gsc in paris May 2026 monthly newsletter! My trip to Paris in April was incredible. I spent the week with authors, artists, philosophers and serious Paris experts. We wrote, we painted, I saw the Renoir exhibit at the Musée d’Orsay, we walked miles and miles around Paris and we ate some incredible meals. And I stayed at a beautiful hotel in the 6th which had been on my bucket-list for so long.

Spring in Paris can be unpredictable—but this trip felt like a gift. The weather was exceptionally (and unseasonably) warm and sunny, which meant long, lingering meals on terraces—something you can’t always count on when visiting Paris in April. It shaped the entire experience, turning each meal into a moment.

It is impossible to say this or that restaurant in Paris is the best – there are just too many options. But all of these were wonderfully unique, delicious and quintessentially Paris.

Spring is here, which means a whole batch of new cookbooks just dropped and they look amazing. As I typically do, I have a roundup of this Spring’s new cookbooks with French or Italy cooking. But I’ve also included a couple others that while they aren’t explicitly French or Italian, they fit the vibe if you love to cook and bake.

I am just back from Paris and welcome to this weekend's edit. I wore this oversized blazer repeat in Paris. J McLaughlin is having a sale. I love this monochromatic look with a crisp white shirt from J Crew and feminine lace skirt from Brochu Walker. While I was London, I bought a Paul Smith scarf for a pop of color. And of course, I stopped in by the pharmacy in Paris for some much needed skin care from La Roche Posay!
