La Caverne du Pont Neuf: JR's Monumental Transformation of Paris' Most Famous Bridge: For Parisians, the Pont Neuf is anything but new. Completed in the early 17th century, the Pont Neuf (New Bridge) is the oldest standing bridge in Paris and one of the city's most recognizable landmarks. Connecting the Right Bank, the Left Bank and the Île de la Cité, it has witnessed four centuries of Parisian history. And this summer, the time worn stone arches of the Pont Neuf have been transformed into something entirely unexpected: a cave. Read all about it here:

“La Caverne du Pont Neuf” by artist JR… a commentary on our constant-online-society, faces buried in our phones, being fed by the algorithm. A nod to Christo and Jeanne- Claude, who famously wrapped Paris’ oldest bridge many years ago.

Sadly, la Caverne broke the night it was set to open due to wild weather, so I could not walk through it. But, we were still able to get a good look. I was so happy to see this - several times from several angles! I love a good monumental-public-art-installation!

The Renaissance (arguably) starts here 🕍🏛️… Santa Maria Novella in Firenze, Italy…by architects Bautista and Vasari… Vasari, who so (in)famously came up with the term “Gothic” to describe the style of those messy and “grotesque” cathedrals, lacking in perfect proportion… He helped usher in a new style, re-born from the classical Greek and Roman styles.

Was he right? Who wore it architecturally best? The newly renovated Notre-Dame might like to have a word…
