As part of the ongoing consultation for Toll of Birness, you can come along to a drop in event tomorrow, Wednesday 2nd September, to view the proposed designs, speak directly with the project team, and share your feedback:

A public consultation for proposed improvements at the Toll of Birness junction is currently underway, with an upcoming drop-in exhibition next week.

Aberdeenshire Council, working in partnership with Nestrans, is inviting residents, businesses and road users to share views on proposals to improve safety at the busy junction on the A90 north of Ellon.

The consultation focuses on preliminary design options for a potential roundabout at the A90/A952 junction, with the aim of improving safety, junction operation and traffic flow for the thousands of motorists who use this key route every day.

The project is the result of several years of collaborative work involving Aberdeenshire Council, Nestrans and Transport Scotland to identify a long-term solution for one of the north-east's most important transport links.

Ahead of the Better Buses roundtable, Transport Secretary Stephen Flynn confirms £55 million to improve bus services across Scotland.

The Scottish Government Bus Infrastructure Fund will support projects that make taking the bus more attractive by making them:

🔹 faster
🔹 more reliable
🔹 easier to use

Mr Flynn said:

“This investment will help local authorities deliver the bus priority measures, passenger facilities and wider improvements they believe are needed to make their local bus services more reliable.”

Transport Secretary Stephen Flynn confirms £68 million for infrastructure.

The Scottish Government investment will help Local Authorities, Regional Transport Partnerships and National Parks to design and construct new projects.

The evidence remains clear - in places where safe, high quality walking, wheeling and cycling routes are created, communities see higher rates of active travel.

Our vision is to make walking, wheeling and cycling the most popular mode of travel for shorter, everyday journeys.

Councillor Alan Turner, chair of Aberdeenshire Council’s Infrastructure Services Committee and vice-chair of Nestrans, said:

“Toll of Birness is a busy junction on a key route and it is vital that we continue to look at how we can improve safety for all road users. Incidents around this location have at times been serious and this reinforces why we are bringing forward these proposals. These designs are the result of several years of partnership working between Aberdeenshire Council, Nestrans and Transport Scotland to identify the most appropriate solution for the junction.

"Aberdeenshire Council and Nestrans are clear that we must also try to future-proof the Toll of Birness for planned growth, including new housing and major commercial developments which are key to supporting our local economy.”

Chair of the Aberdeen City Region Deal and co-leader of Aberdeenshire Council, Cllr Anne Stirling, added:

“This important project has been supported through the Aberdeen City Region Deal, which is helping us develop robust designs and business cases for strategic transport improvements. Building on many years of technical assessment and joint working with our transport partners, we are now at an important stage where local communities and road users can help shape the preferred option.

"It is essential that we develop the strongest possible case with clear designs and costings so that we are well placed when national funding opportunities arise to progress to scheme delivery. I would encourage everyone with an interest in this vital route to get involved in the consultation, either online or at the public event.”

Aberdeenshire Council in partnership with Nestrans, Tactran and Angus Council is undertaking a transport connectivity study across Stonehaven, Mearns and North Angus.

We're seeking participation in a new survey which explores how easy is it to travel where you need to go.

Whether you're commuting to work, travelling to school, visiting friends and family or accessing local services, we want to hear about your experiences.

Your feedback will help us better understand current travel patterns, identify transport challenges and explore opportunities to improve journeys across the area.

In fairness we haven’t ultimately decided exactly what we will do from our new city base, sure we’ll fix bikes, sell refurbished bikes, and partner up with other local organisations, groups, and projects; but beyond that? Let’s see what happens 🤷🏻‍♂️

We promote active and sustainable travel, and do a whole bunch of cycling and bike focused things.
