If you’re thinking about a Christmas market break in Europe, I’d start with how you want it to feel, rather than choosing the biggest name.

Budapest is the one I’d love to visit myself. I haven’t been yet, but the Christmas market traditions are what draw me to it. For me, that would be the reason to go: taking time to enjoy the festive atmosphere together, rather than rushing through a sightseeing list.

It’s the option I’d be keen to explore with couples planning their first Christmas market break. Before choosing, I’d want to know what matters most to you. Are the markets the main event, or would you like them to be part of a wider city break? That makes a difference when deciding where to stay and how long to go for.

If you’re going to plan ahead for winter 2028/29, I’d start with how you want to spend it: Caribbean sunshine or a chance to see the Northern Lights?

P&O Cruises’ new programme has me looking at two quite different holidays.

For couples wanting sunshine with a bit of exploring, I’d put Caribbean fly-cruises on the shortlist. My starting point would be the itinerary: does it match the places you want to see, and the pace you enjoy? That matters more than picking a sailing because the dates work.

Aurora’s Northern Lights cruises would be my other pick, especially if you’d rather make the experience the focus of your winter break. There’s no guarantee of seeing the lights, so I’d help you choose a cruise you’d enjoy either way.

Summer 2028 is now on sale with Jet2holidays, and there's a Zero Deposit offer to go with it.

If you're the sort who likes to get the big family or couples' trip sorted early, this is a lovely time to start. From 7 October to 1 November 2026, qualifying holidays departing between 1 May 2027 and 31 October 2028 can be booked with no deposit. 🌞

That gives you plenty of time to choose your destination, pick the right resort and spread the cost, without the pressure of a big payment upfront.

Planning your first Asia trip? I’d start with how you want to spend your time, not how many stops you can squeeze in.

The thing that grabbed me about AmaWaterways is the itineraries. They feel like they’re built around what you actually want to see each day, not just ticking off ports for the sake of it.

If you’ve never cruised before, river cruising can be a brilliant first step. You get the scenery changing outside your window, you don’t have the “where am I on this huge ship?” feeling, and the whole experience is simpler. The ships and cabins matter here too. You’re not booking a floating resort. You’re booking your base for a week of proper sightseeing and easy evenings, so comfort and layout make a big difference.

If you’re a couple thinking, “We want something special but we don’t want faff,” this is the sort of trip I’d look at. Especially if good food onboard is part of the holiday for you, not an afterthought.
