Today’s route is all about fresh air, open fields, and finishing up with some of the best ice cream around — welcome to the Alton to Daltons Dairy ride!

Today’s featured trail takes you from Alton village out to the peaceful countryside near Fieldhead farm — a hidden gem offering **open water swimming** in their natural lake 🏊‍♂️.

This peaceful circular route starts from the beautiful woodland setting of Quarry Walk Park, ideal for guests staying in lodges, cabins or camping. Expect gentle terrain, forest views and a real taste of Staffordshire countryside.

📍 **Start Point:** Quarry Walk Park, Freehay
📏 **Distance:** \~6.5 miles
🟢 **Difficulty:** Easy–Moderate
🌄 **Terrain:** Country lanes, gravel paths, woodland trails
🏞️ **Highlight:** Riding through the leafy paths of Oakamoor Valley and along the historic railway trail

💡 **Top Tip:** This is a great early morning or late afternoon ride — keep your eyes peeled for deer, squirrels, and some stunning light breaking through the trees!

🧭 Route Summary:

* Start at **Quarry Walk Park** (bikes can be delivered here!)
* Head north along quiet Freehay Road
* Drop into Oakamoor village, then pick up the **Oakamoor to Denstone Railway Trail**

Today’s featured route takes you from the heart of Alton village up to the legendary Chained Oak — a local landmark wrapped in myth and metal! 🌿🔗

📍 Start Point: Alton Village (Station/High Street)
📏 Distance: ~1.5 miles one way
🟡 Difficulty: Moderate (short, steady climb)
🌲 Terrain: Quiet lanes and wooded trails
🏛️ Highlight: The ancient oak tree wrapped in iron chains — the eerie inspiration behind Alton Towers’ Hex ride!

💡 Top Tip: Leave your bike at the trail’s edge and take a few steps up to see the oak close-up. It’s a must-visit spot for locals and visitors alike — especially for a photo with a touch of mystery.

🧭 Route Summary:

Start in Alton village

Head up Chained Oak Road through peaceful countryside

Follow the footpath to the Chained Oak viewpoint

Either loop back or continue towards Farley or Denstone for an extended ride

Looking for a peaceful, scenic ride? This easy route takes you from Alton to Denstone, following the charming old railway line and finishing with a serene lakeside moment.

📍 Start Point: Alton Station area or Oakamoor Picnic Site
📏 Distance: ~3.5 miles one-way (7 miles return)
🟢 Difficulty: Easy
🛤️ Terrain: Disused railway line—mostly compact gravel, gentle gradients
🌄 Highlight: A relaxing finish at JCB’s landscaped lake, perfect for a quiet break or picnic
🍽️ Bonus Tip: End your ride with treats from Denstone Hall Farm Shop & Café, just a short walk from the lake

📍 Start Point: Dimmingsdale Car Park
📏 Distance: Approx. 4.2 miles
🟢 Difficulty: Easy–Moderate
🌲 Terrain: Gravel woodland trails, forest paths
🌟 Highlight: Tranquil scenery, rustic bridges, and a great chance to spot local wildlife

💡 Top Tip: This route is perfect for families or a laid-back solo ride. Take a flask and treat yourself to a stop at the Rambler’s Retreat halfway through 🍰☕ — it’s a local gem!
