Week 16 of our 25th anniversary series - HMS Challenger: The Voyage That Created Modern Oceanography

In the spring of 1872, HMSChallengerdeparted Portsmouth on what would become one of the most important scientific voyages in maritime history. Originally built as a Royal Navy corvette, the vessel was transformed into a floating laboratory for a four year expedition that would fundamentally change humanity’s understanding of the oceans.

At a time when much of the deep sea remained unexplored and mysterious, the British Government and the Royal Society commissioned the expedition to investigate the physical and biological nature of the world’s oceans.

Week 15 of our 25th anniversary series - National Maritime Day: Celebrating the Stories That Shaped Global Trade

On 22 May we recognise National Maritime Day, a celebration of the people, innovation and historic journeys that have shaped global trade and connected nations across the world. While National Maritime Day originated in the United States in 1933, when Congress officially established the observance, its roots stretch much further back to 22 May 1819.

United Kingdom
Our UK offices will be closed on Monday 25th May 2026 for the Spring Bank Holiday.

United States
Our US office will be closed on Monday 25th May 2026 in observance of Memorial Day.

Ireland
Our Irish offices will be closed on Monday 1st June 2026 for the June Bank Holiday.

Trump’s Trade Policy Remains In Limbo After Further Court Rulings

The legal battle surrounding President Trump’s latest tariff policy took another dramatic turn this month, adding further uncertainty to an already volatile global trade environment. On May 7th, the US Court of International Trade ruled that the interim 10% tariffs introduced in January were unlawful, stating that the “tariffs imposed on Plaintiffs are unauthorised by law.” The decision marked another significant setback for the administration’s aggressive trade agenda.

Asia-Europe Carriers Tighten Space As Peak Season Approaches

Ocean freight carriers operating on Asia-Europe trade lanes are beginning to tighten container capacity ahead of the upcoming peak season, with an assertive approach to blanked sailings. While the number of planned blank sailings for June and July currently remains broadly in line with seasonal trends seen in previous years, the industry is now seeing a noticeable rise in late-stage and last-minute cancellations.
