Applegates have been proud to support one of our drivers through her Trefoil Guild Voyage Awards even though it has taken her 10 years!
Voyage awards are a personal challenge aimed at supporting Trefoil Guild members to identify their skills, improve on what they know, and learn new ones. It has 3 levels - bronze, silver and gold - and for each level there are challenges to compete designed around 5 key areas.
• service
• myself
• teamwork
• skills
• explore my world
10 years ago, Jane approached Ceri the owner of Applegates and randomly asked if she could observe maintenance work in the garage and get involved. With no coach maintenance experience Ceri agreed and the start of learning a new skill for her bronze voyage award began.
Jane went on the do a car maintenance course and spent a lot more time in the garage learning about coach body repair, preparing body work and painting.
The next challenge supported by Applegates for her Silver award was learning to drive coaches and busses and to gain her licence. With the use of trusty H6EFA an MAN Plaxton and some hairy driving lessons Jane passed her test and is still driving for Applegates today often driving the local kids to KLB on the X6 route every morning and can sometimes be found on a double driver duty as she explores the far ends of our wonderful country.
Jane is both a member of the Trefoil Guild and Girlguiding uk. It is a double achievement this year for her as she has achieved her gold voyage award and also celebrates 30 years of being a leader.
