From M&G's owner in response to this heartfelt post by Three Shires, (see below)
I totally empathise here. It's everything but the clients. Or at least 99.9% of them anyway.
We are treated like disposable fodder. Disrespected, and made to feel worthless. Day, after day.
I have 32 years in this. The last 10 especially have seen overheads explode. The regulatory environment to work in become ever more burdensome. Recruitment become ridiculously difficult. And the amount of stress you start the working day with treble, compared to say, 2015.
However, it's the disrespect. Frankly. Shown by Conveyancing and Estate agents. Broadly. Which then arrives at our door in the form of totally unreasonable working hours, demands, and clients who get served to us, stressed, angry, and/or upset. Through zero fault of theirs, or ours. Yet we pick up that psychological toll every, single, day.
Our industry is in a recruitment and profits crisis. Why? Because the housing market is broken. Dysfunctional. Unhealthy and ensures we spend every day planning a mere 6 days ahead if we are lucky. While being expected to run huge payrolls and running costs.
We are expected to exist with monthly overheads at nigh on six figures against a market that thinks it's reasonable to give us 4 days notice.
And then being expected to suck up key wait, after key wait. It was bad back in 1994. Now, it's just grotesque.it makes employees feel like they're not valued. Like they can be abused by Conveyancing. Like nobody appreciates what they do.
As a company owner who loves his employees, loves the clients, and loves the artistry of what we do. There comes a point where you can only absorb so much of that. Before you decide 'enough'.
Three Shires , I hear you. Not only are you not alone. But from what we hear, we are close to hundreds of moving company owners following you.
Your post isn't the first. It's just the latest.
No profession / trade gets treated like we do.
My thoughts are with you.
