Sometimes it’s about more than getting from A to B.

It’s getting to that hospital appointment you’ve been worrying about.

Popping into town when you don’t drive anymore.

Meeting a friend for a coffee and a catch-up.

Or simply getting out of the house and keeping a bit of independence.

To us, it’s never just another journey on the system.

Because to our passengers, it could be the most important part of their day.

And that’s worth remembering.

Because we’re not just taking people places. We’re helping them carry on doing the things that matter to them.

That’s what being a local taxi company should be about ❤️

I reckon one of the nicest things you can hear from somebody is…

“I saw this and thought of you.”

Doesn’t even matter what it is.

Just knowing somebody spotted something completely random and you popped into their head.

Little things like that are underrated 🩵

“DON’T SEND ME A PAKI”

Yes. That’s something people still say to us.

In 2026.

And quite frankly, I’m fu***ng sick of hearing it.

I’m going to address something that’s been going on for far too long, because I don’t think some people realise what our staff and drivers are expected to put up with.

We still get passengers ringing Local and saying things like:

“Don’t send me a paki.”

“I don’t want one of those foreign drivers.”

And various other versions of the same disgusting request.

Let me make something absolutely clear.

If the colour of somebody’s skin or where they were born determines whether you’ll get in their taxi, Local isn’t the company for you.

And I mean that.

We have some brilliant drivers. Different backgrounds, different nationalities, different religions.

They’re out working, earning a living, supporting their families and doing a job that plenty of people wouldn’t fancy doing themselves.

They deserve to be treated with basic human decency.

Now, I want to make an important distinction here.

Expecting a good standard of service is absolutely reasonable.

You should expect your driver to be polite.

Courteous.

Helpful.

To know the area and use sensible routes wherever possible.

And if you’ve genuinely had a bad experience with a particular driver, tell us.

We’ll investigate it.

If there’s been a genuine disagreement or conflict, we can even arrange for that passenger and driver not to be allocated to each other again.

That’s completely different.

Having a problem with a particular driver’s behaviour is one thing. Having a problem with an entire race or nationality is another.

And we’re not going to pretend those two things are the same.

We’re called Local because we’re a local company.

The overwhelming majority of our drivers are from around here.

But being born in Blaydon isn’t a requirement for being a decent taxi driver.

If somebody wants to work hard, learn the area, treat passengers properly and become part of Local, they’re welcome here.

I couldn’t care less where they were born.

And here’s something else I wish people would think about.

Sometimes it’s late at night.

You’ve rang because you need a taxi home.

We’ve got a driver available who can come and get you.

He’s licensed, he’s working, and he’s perfectly capable of taking you where you need to go.

But you don’t want him because he’s ‘foreign’.

What exactly are we supposed to do?

Tell you there’s no taxi available?

Leave you standing there because the only driver working wasn’t born in the same postcode as you?

It’s ridiculous.

And more importantly, it’s wrong.

Our drivers shouldn’t have to wonder whether a passenger is going to refuse to get in their car because of what they look like.

Our staff shouldn’t have to listen to racial abuse down the phone.

And nobody working with Local should feel that we’ll tolerate it just to keep a booking.

We have zero tolerance for racism.

Not when it’s directed at our drivers.

Not when it’s directed at our staff.

And not when somebody tries to dress it up as a harmless preference.

If you’ve got a genuine problem with the service, I’ll listen.

If one of our drivers has done something wrong, I’ll deal with it.

But if your only complaint is the colour of their skin or their nationality?

You can take your business elsewhere.

I’d rather lose the fare than expect somebody working for Local to put up with that s**t.

And that’s not a marketing statement.

That’s where I stand.

Local is for everyone. Racism isn’t welcome here.

Some people have never put their phone on silent in their entire lives and honestly I admire that level of confidence 😂

When I started Local, I genuinely thought the hardest part would be finding customers.

I was wrong.

Getting people to want a taxi isn’t the difficult bit.

Having the right number of cars in exactly the right places at exactly the right times is.

Taxi demand is weird.

You can sit looking at a completely calm screen and think:

“Lovely. We’re well covered.”

Twenty minutes later everybody in Blaydon apparently decides they need to leave their house at the same time 😅

Morning rush.
School times.
Hospital appointments.
Finishing work.
Friday and Saturday nights.
Weather changes.
Flights land.
Trains arrive.
Events finish.

One road closes and suddenly half the area is taking twice as long to get through.

You can have plenty of drivers across an entire day and still be desperately short for one particular 45-minute window.

That’s probably the hardest part of this business that nobody outside it ever really sees.

It isn’t just:

Customer wants taxi → send taxi.

It’s trying to constantly predict where the next hundred people are going to want one from.

Seven years in and we’re obviously much better at it than we were.

But I don’t think you ever completely master it.

Sometimes the whole area just decides it needs a taxi at once 😂

You know what I think we take for granted living in the North East?

How much we’ve actually got on our doorstep.

We’ve got the coast, countryside, Newcastle, Durham, Northumberland… all within easy reach.

Yet there’s probably places less than an hour from home that some of us have never even visited.

What’s somewhere nearby you think more people should know about? 👀

PLEASE READ THIS. YES, YOU 🫵🏼

I need to ask you for a favour.

And before you scroll past thinking “someone else will do it”…

That’s exactly why I’m talking to YOU.

Because here’s what happens when a small business asks people for a bit of help.

Thousands of people see it.

Most think “ahh, that’s nice, hope they do well”

A few might even give it a like.

But hardly anybody actually does the thing we’re asking.

Not because they’re horrible people.

Just because everybody assumes somebody else will.

So I’m going to ask you properly.

PLEASE, can you help me grow Local?

Not by booking a taxi.

Not by spending any money.

Not by sharing some massive advert all over Facebook.

Just by taking less than a minute to invite your friends to follow our page.

Here’s how:

1. Click on Local Taxis at the top of this post to open our page.
2. Look for the three dots (•••). Depending on your version of Facebook, they’ll either be next to the Message button or in the top-right corner.
3. Tap Invite friends.
4. Hit Select all.
5. Tap Send invitations.

That’s literally it. Less than 60 seconds of your time! ❤️

We’re a small, independently owned local business. We don’t have some massive national company behind us.

And the people who follow this page, share our posts, recommend us and tell their friends about us genuinely make a difference.

I know asking people to invite their friends isn’t exactly groundbreaking.

But sometimes you’ve just got to swallow your pride and ask for help.

So if you’re reading this and thinking:

“I’ll do it later.”

You won’t 😂

And if you’re thinking:

“Somebody else will”

They probably won’t either.

I’m asking YOU. The actual person reading this right now.

Please give me 60 seconds of your day.

It costs absolutely nothing, but it could help Local reach hundreds of people who’ve never heard of us.

And if you’ve already done it, thank you. Genuinely.

Right. I’ll stop begging now.

Unless this doesn’t work, in which case I’ll probably be back begging again next week 😅

YOU DON’T NEED A TAXI RIGHT NOW. BUT DOWNLOAD OUR APP ANYWAY📱

👇🏼Get yourself sorted in two minutes:
https://icab.bi/localtaxis

Because the worst time to be downloading apps and setting up accounts is when you’re running late, standing in the rain or just wanting to get home.

Do it now while you’re scrolling Facebook, and next time you need a taxi, Local’s already on your phone.

A few taps to book, track your driver and get on with your day.

Two minutes now. One less headache later 😏

Saturday night reminder…

If your pickup is somewhere absolutely rammed, moving 50 yards away from the crowd can make finding your taxi about 10x easier 😅

Drivers can see the booking.

They unfortunately can’t see which one of the 38 people standing outside is you 😂

If there’s an obvious landmark nearby, even better.

Tiny thing, but it can save loads of messing around for everyone.
