After the first week of working in my new car I thought I’d share a few of the comments I’ve had from customers over the last week…….

1. It’s Huge in here!

2. It’s very comfortable and quiet.

3. It’s very clean (little bit of credit to Garland Skoda for that I guess, although I have cleaned it several times due to the awful weather)

All private hire vehicles can only accept journeys that are booked in advance, otherwise they are not insured.

Taxis can only ply for hire on a taxi rank or be flagged down within the district in which they are licensed.

Uber can not pick up without a prior booking, you might be offered a cheap ride but this is illegal and in the event of an incident, uninsured and unlicensed.

Protect yourself and travel in safety by always using a correctly licensed taxi or private hire operator.

A private hire driver has received a fine and must pay £5000 in costs after plying for hire at a taxi rank in Alexandra Road, Aldershot, on 27 May last year, without the appropriate licence.

In the run up to the budget It had been suggested that VAT would be added to all private hire journeys, even for operators or sole traders that fall under the current VAT threshold.

This could have been devastating for smaller, local businesses who work hard everyday to support our families and offer vital services to many in rural communities.

Instead, huge multinationals and bigger businesses will no longer be able to use a rather complicated loophole to circumvent their liabilities. From 1 January 2026 PHV operators such as UBER, Bolt and other ride hailing apps will no longer be able to use the Tour Operator Margin Scheme (TOMS) to reduce their VAT liabilities.
