If you’re ever in the Bologna area, do yourself a favour and take a day trip to Ferrara and Comacchio.

Ferrara has a massive castle with a moat. A proper moat. The kind that makes you wonder why we stopped putting them around things.

Then there’s Comacchio, a beautiful little canal town often called “Little Venice”. Same charm, far fewer people trying to take the exact same photo.

It’s easy to do both in a day: train from Bologna to Ferrara, then hop on the 330 or 331 bus to Comacchio.

Castles, canals, good food and no crowds.

As a result of this trip down memory lane, I’ve somehow managed to book return flights to Bologna in September for £50. I was only trying to remember a nice day out. Next thing I knew, Ryanair had my card details and I had a boarding pass.

Happy Friday, everyone 🥳.

A huge thank you to everyone who entered my Ryanair voucher giveaway by sharing photos of your favourite places and the reasons behind them. I loved reading all your entries.

I’d have loved to give everyone a prize, but I’m from Yorkshire. I still peel the foil off the butter and scrape the back of it 😆

Anyway, after much deliberation, the lucky winner is Tracey Lee.

Ibiza Sunsets

“Last year, at the age of 57 and just four months after the sudden death of my husband, I took my first ever solo trip to a new destination, Ibiza.

It was a beautiful island and a time for reflection, anonymity and tranquillity that gave me the strength to face some very difficult times.

Since then, I’ve taken two further solo trips and I’m planning my next one as I write this.”

A lovely story and a very worthy winner.

Congratulations, Tracy. Your vouchers will be on their way soon.

Thanks again to everyone who entered. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to recover from the shock of giving something away for free 😂

When I was in Verona, I reached my daily limit of Romeo, Juliet, and people taking photos of a balcony.

So I made a run for it and headed to Soave.

🚆 25-minute train to San Bonifacio (€4-ish)
🚌 10-minute bus to Soave (€2-ish)

For about €12 return I traded tourist crowds for a medieval walled town, a hilltop castle, cobbled streets, and enough local wine to convince myself I could live there.

If you’re ever in Verona and feel the urge to escape for a few hours, I’d definitely recommend it. Sometimes the best part of visiting a place is briefly leaving it.🏰

If you ever find yourself wandering the cobbled streets of Zagreb, do yourself a favour and visit the Museum of Broken Relationships. It’s one of the weirdest and most brilliant museums you’ll ever walk into. Imagine a place where heartbreak, bad decisions and emotional damage have been carefully curated for public entertainment.

The museum is packed with real items donated by people from failed relationships all over the world, each with its own story. One minute you’re crying laughing at an angry farewell gift or an ex’s ridiculous love letter, the next you’re suddenly emotional over a tiny object that somehow carries an entire life story. It’s basically therapy, but cheaper and with better lighting.

Some exhibits are hilarious, some are completely chaotic and some make you stare into the distance questioning every text message you’ve ever sent after midnight. You’ll leave feeling strangely comforted knowing people everywhere are out there surviving terrible breakups and somehow turning them into museum exhibits.

Honestly, it’s impossible not to love. Equal parts heart warming, tragic and absolutely unhinged. Also, it may be the only museum in the world where you can laugh at someone else’s emotional collapse while quietly remembering your own.

It’s been a while since I felt generous… mainly because Ryanair already take enough from me emotionally ✈️💸

So, for your chance to win £50 Ryanair vouchers:

1) 📸 Comment a photo of your favourite holiday destination
2) Tell me why it’s your favourite

Maybe it was the scenery. Maybe it was the food. Maybe it was the first time in months you didn’t hear “can you just quickly…” from work. Or maybe it was that magical holiday confidence where after 2 days abroad you’re suddenly saying things like “we should just buy a place out here” despite having £14 in your bank account 🍹☀️

I want to hear about the holiday that nearly convinced you to abandon your life responsibilities and start selling bracelets on the beach.

Just a heads up, there’s a fake account pretending to be me 😂 I’ve reported it already, but if you spot it please report it too.

Can you imagine 2 of me? Christ 😆 One of us can’t even keep track of boarding passes and passwords, never mind running two accounts.

If the fake me starts travelling business class and posting consistently, just know it’s definitely not the real me ✈️😂

I once saw something pretty in the distance while travelling between Florence and Pisa and reacted like an actual golden retriever spotting a tennis ball. I immediately got off the train and ended up in Certaldo.

Turns out it was one of the best places I visited. Tiny medieval streets, barely any tourists, cheap wine, and the sort of town that makes you think “yeah I could live here” after one Moretti and zero research. I took the funicular up for a “quick look” and accidentally disappeared for half the day.

If you want to go, it’s about 50 mins by train from Florence and costs around £6, then a €1.70 funicular to the old town because even medieval villages respect laziness.

This may help some of you looking for cheap digs on your travels because apparently I’ve been booking hotels like an absolute mug and only just discovered the Vio app.

Managed to bag a king suite in Las Vegas for the rugby next year, 6 nights for £480 between 2 of us including resort fees. That’s £240 each. In Vegas. 😮

At those prices I genuinely expect the room to come with a shared bathroom and a bloke called Dave. Unfortunately for me, I’m already travelling with Dave 🤣🏉🎰

Someone messaged me asking for a beach place not a million miles from Rome that doesn’t require selling a kidney for a hotel room.

The answer: Sperlonga.

€8–€12 train from Rome to Fondi-Sperlonga, short bus ride after that, and suddenly you’re swimming in clear blue water wondering why you’re still paying €7 for iced coffee in Rome.

Basically Amalfi Coast vibes on a regional train budget.

Happy Bank Holiday everyone ☀️🇬🇧 Hope you’re all enjoying the yearly British tradition of seeing one bit of sun and acting like we live in Marbella. 😂

Just wanted to say again, I’m not a travel agent and I don’t take money off anyone. I’m literally just a normal person who spends far too much time looking at cheap flights instead of sorting my life out. 🤣

I only started this little page because I know how easy it is to think travel is only for people with loads of money, but honestly most of my trips are held together by budget airlines, last minute deals and pure delusion. 😂

If anything I post helps someone book their first trip, get away for a few days, or realise they actually can afford to see a bit of the world, then that honestly means more to me than anything. The messages people send me genuinely make my day. ❤️

I’ll catch up on replies later today. Not ignoring anyone, just currently recovering from a dangerous amount of birthday gins and a hangover that feels deeply personal.
