Part 4 - The Final Leg
The Cairngorms - just stunning! Inverness, A9 all the way... Arrived at The Weigh Inn, Thurso, our final destination, Billy, Bill, Jack and Fred's starting point.

Scotland you put the English roads to shame! Very lucky with the weather, we followed a rain cloud, not not a drop touched us, making unloading from a bone dry stepframe a piece of cake!

Our part towards this epic fundraiser is completed (apart from getting back to Dorset!)

We are very proud to have sponsored the lads with our time, equipment and diesel, ensuring nothing we have done diminishes they monies raise.

part 2 & 3...

Ash drove for the second leg. The M6 around Warrington was a bore, barely moving! Once past that onwards towards Kendall and Carlisle.

The initial plan was a stop at Tebay Services, but in reality that didn't get us far enough, so onto Southwaite Services, where we took a quick leg stretch and coffee break, swapped drivers and headed north to Scotland.

Jaquie ran out of time 2/3rds of the way between Perth and Inverness, so a big Scottish layby with a view was our "bedroom" for the night. Microwaved supper it was! This was also the point when Ash found he'd brought the stove and not checked there was a gas cannister inside.... 😥 No hot drinks for us or a cuppa before the off tomorrow! 😱

First part of the trip taking a Ford 6700, a Nuffield and two Fordson Majors from West Doset to Thurso ready for the lads to start their epic Tractor Trundle in aid of the www.willdoes.co.uk charity.

Jaquie took the wheel for the first leg, out through the Bride Valley and up the M5 to Frankley Services. Quick comfort break and coffee. Load checked, straps checked and back on the road. Ashley at wheel for leg two.

Four guys and their tractors...

Loading, now strapping down, getting ready for an early start tomorrow. Jaquie and I will be double driving so we get to Thurso, the start point for the three peaks tractor trundle back to West Dorset. ACTT has sponsored the lads on their incredible journey.

Apologies, a day late! It's been a busy week...

This photo was taken at The Port of Silloth, North Cumbria at 2am in the morning!

I was sat having my tea early one evening, when a call from Samways Fish Merchants came in. Can I collect a trailer from their yard, travel up to Silloth, to meet a boat coming into dock at 02:30 tonight? A little bit of haggling took place, before the price was finally agreed. Tea finished, I was on the road by 18:30 to collect the trailer and head north. I arrived on the dockside at 2am.

The trawler came into the port as expected, half an hour later, not too long to wait. My load was scallops - they were transferred off the trawler and into the trailer. Once loading was completed and the trailer secured, I had to remain on the dock side for my 9 hours off, so climbed into the bunk to get some 'shut eye'...

Only to wake up in the morning to 3" of snow on the ground and it was still coming down thick and fast! Work to do, places to go, back on the now slippery roads for the return to Dorset. Thankfully all went well and I pulled into Samways yard at 7pm that night. It sure was a memorable job!

MV03 EZH - 580 V8 Classic, manual, 2 axle, plated to 38 tonne. Purchased the winter of 2007, I chose this set up as I was running into Europe on a regular basis then. Fish/Seafood to various locations in Holland; weekly chilled foods from Belgium, delivered to various UK destinations; and other work such as relocations into France, Portugal and other countries. This unit spent many hours on ferries and Eurostar to get her work completed.

The route planning has begun, timings, stops, etc. Myself and Jaquie are double manning the trip.

For those that know Drivers/WTD regulations, you appreciate the planning involved. For those that don't know; we have to plan meticulously as Driver Hours are so strict. We need to look at the hours/days the week before this trip and the week after too, as well as the detail for the trip itself.

This photo, was taken in 1990 up at Fathers yard in Litton Cheney. I was 23, coming up 24 years old, this was my second artic unit...

1985 Volvo F10 Intercooler, 4x2, 38 tonne tractor unit. I bought this in 1989 for £10k from Malcolm Harrison Auctions LTD. I didn't have quite enough savings, so my Mother lent me the rest.

A very good truck, she never let me down and would be worth a tidy penny now in good condition! I did work for K R Joyce Transport hauling fertiliser and also pulling tankers for Pattemores Transport and Dairy Ingredients with milk and whey. We went to Italy a couple times with a tilt trailer, some sort of machine parts was the load; and also hauled w**e from mid France with this unit too.

I owned and operated this truck for 3 years, selling her for £5.5k shortly before starting with the UN.

My BMW, a 1984, 528i was a fast car for the time, I had just bought her when this photo was taken. Again, would be worth a lot today, if in good condition.
