Saturday brought another set of choices for the guests. We had an excursion to The Dutch Railway Museum or a City Tour in Utrecht. The Railway Museum is fantastic! One guest described it as the Disneyland of trains! It’s worth a visit if you’re in Utrecht.

The Railway Museum is so much more than just a museum. It's a fascinating place with a real-life station, a theatre and exciting attractions.

Yesterday the guests had a choice of two excursions, either a canal cruise in Amsterdam or a guided walking tour of Volendam and a cheese farm. Both groups had a wonderful time.

I have been a quiet on here for the last couple of weeks! Many of you will be aware that the water levels in some of Europe’s rivers have been problematic for river cruises. It has been quite a task keeping the ships sailing but I have been lucky in that I’ve had some very understanding guests. I’m back on board for my last cruise of the season so hopefully I can share some of the next week with you!

On Saturday we had a tour of the pretty harbour town of Honfleur. It was lovely to be back there - especially as Saturday is market day! Everyone enjoyed the time there.

On Friday we had the day in Rouen. The guests had a guided tour of the city - famous as the place that Joan of Arc was executed in 1431. As it was the 25th anniversary of September 11th and the New York twin towers attacks I went to the cathedral to remember my colleagues from the aviation world and everyone else that lost their lives on that day.

Safety is always important and at the forefront of our minds. On the Amadeus Diamond we have a safety drill every week that includes participation from everyone on board. Well done to the team and guests for a good drill.

Yesterday we moored in Conflans St Honorine and had an excursion to Auvers sur Oise. It is a charming town with a lot of history around the artist Vincent Van Gogh. We had a guided tour of the town and enjoyed an exhibition dedicated to him in Chateau Lery.
