On Monday evening, our company suffered one of the worst acts of vandalism in its history.
Since we first began parking vehicles in Midsomer Norton in 1973, we have never experienced anything on this scale. In total, 58 windows were smashed across 13 vehicles, and we are still working to fully assess the cost. Some of these vehicles are part of our heritage fleet and have been in our family for over 30 years.
First and foremost, we want to reassure all our customers that services will operate as planned on Monday 20th April, please do not worry.
We would like to sincerely thank the member of the public who alerted us so quickly. Thanks to their actions, we were able to save a further four vehicles from damage.
We are also extremely grateful to the police for their swift response and continued support over the past 48 hours, which has already led to two arrests.
A huge thank you goes to our staff — some of whom have returned early from holidays — for their incredible effort in helping with the clean-up and doing everything they can to keep us moving.
We have also been truly overwhelmed by the support from across the coach and bus industry. From offers of loan vehicles, help sourcing hard-to-find glass, and even additional staff to assist with repairs, the response has been remarkable and very moving. Messages have come in from local operators, as well as from as far afield as Scotland and the south coast, and we are incredibly grateful to each and every one of you.
With fuel costs already up by 50% compared to last month, this has come at a particularly challenging time. However, thanks to the support we have received, we are confident we will get through this.
This year marks 101 years of our family providing road transport services to the community. We have endured a world war, recessions, and a global pandemic, and we remain as determined and resilient as ever.
To those responsible, it is difficult to understand the thinking behind such actions. We can only hope that, in time, there is some reflection on the stress and sadness caused by what may have seemed like a moment of recklessness.
