This weekend we had an article published on BBC News online about Japanese Knotweed and PlantTracker.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-40899108

The article received over 1 million hits on Saturday, which had the slightly unfortunate side effect of killing our website. However, it's all back up and running now.

Note, that if you want to see the distribution of invasive plant species you will need to use the website and not the app

A smartphone app can tell you whether Japanese knotweed is anywhere near where you live.

If you live in, near (or are visiting) the Peak District and have an interest in wildlife then check out the MoorWILD app we made for the brilliant Moors for the Future project. This app lets you submit records of key species to help the Community Science team monitor wildlife populations.

You can download the app for both Android and iOS here: http://www.natural-apptitude.co.uk/project/moorwild/

Plus, there are 3 other apps in the series to help you find out more about the Peak District National Park and its environmental heritage:

MoorPLANTS : http://www.natural-apptitude.co.uk/project/moorplants/
MoorSIGHTS : http://www.natural-apptitude.co.uk/project/moorsights/
MoorMOSS : http://www.natural-apptitude.co.uk/project/moormoss/

Did you know we have a free app called MoorWILD? It's a guide to upland wildlife and you can also use it send us your sightings of Community Science survey species.

Just search for MoorWILD on Google Play (Android) or the App Store (Apple).

Great to see some more Lamprey records coming in!

Thank you to Norfolk Rivers Trust () for the recent addition of Lamprey records to the LampreyWatch website! More discoveries from them on the way too. Check out their website (http://t.co/325gZgJ2q8) for information about what they do. A lot of it is Eely interesting. (I'll get my coat).

The Reconnect and Dodder Action projects in Ireland are using the River Obstacles app (http://www.river-obstacles.org.uk/) to map barriers on the Dodder. A great example of community engagement and citizen science. Looks as if the sun even came out for the workshop! Why not follow the progress of both of these projects by following them on Facebook?

Huge thanks to everybody that came along to the workshop today!

Great to see the MoorWild app (http://naturelocator.org/moorwild.html) being used to collect valuable data on key species in the Peak District National Park. Great photo of two male Ring Ouzel too!

Your sightings of ring ouzels in the South Pennines are playing an important role in monitoring how these threatened birds are faring this year. Andy Jones sent us this great photo of ouzels (one showing some 'pied' plumage). It's quick and easy to report a sighting via our website or the MoorWILD app: http://www.moorsforthefuture.org.uk/community-science/ouzel-redwing-survey

Great to see the many recorders using the Mammal Tracker app being recognised by the Mammal Society. Fantastic to see so much great data being collected by you all too.

If you haven't seen the project yet you can find details here:

We've recently completed a series of citizen science projects for the Scottish Environment Protection Agency: Lamprey Watch, Soil Erosion and Rainfall Observers.

We've also created a portal for the citizen science projects they run to make it easier for people to find and join in with interesting projects. And not all of these are limited to Scotland! In fact, only 2 of the currently featured projects are currently focused on Scotland in particular so take a look and why not join in?

Very sad news indeed. A lovely chap with so much to offer and a force for good. He will be greatly missed.
