Today, Bristol Port was delighted to host its first ever Family Open Day!

Despite the rainy weather, colleagues and their loved ones enjoyed a fantastic day exploring the Port through guided tours, trying out our crane simulator, viewing our mobile plant display and experiencing the excitement of the Port police “blues and twos”.

There was plenty of family entertainment on offer, including a wipeout challenge, bouncy castle, face painting, live music, a magician and delicious food from our canteen, alongside a popular hog roast.

The event was a great success and showcased the strong sense of community and camaraderie that makes Bristol Port such a special place to work. It was wonderful to welcome families and friends and give them the opportunity to see first-hand the unique environment in which we work every day.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the day such a memorable occasion.

We’re incredibly proud to celebrate our apprentices who have achieved their Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award! 🏅👏
On Friday 22nd May, they attended a special celebration at Buckingham Palace, where they heard inspiring stories and encouragement from celebrity speakers, as well as a speech from The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Edward, congratulating award holders from across the country.
The Gold DofE Award recognises dedication, resilience, volunteering, teamwork and expedition achievements — qualities that are hugely valued here at The Bristol Port Company. The journey has helped our apprentices build confidence, strengthen friendships and develop lifelong skills.
A huge congratulations to:
⭐ Billy Haskins
⭐ Riley Drew
⭐ Michal Marzec
⭐ James Dorrell
⭐ Lloyd Harvey
⭐ Rion Beech
What an incredible achievement — we’re very proud of you all!
We’re also excited that 41 of our current apprentices are now working towards their Gold DofE Award and beginning their own amazing journey. 🚢💙

After more than two and a half years of project management, planning and collaboration, The Bristol Port Company is proud to welcome the arrival of our new £11.4 million Liebherr LPS 600 crane and hopper system.

Purpose-built in Rostock, Germany, the crane arrived this week at Royal Portbury Dock after its journey by sea from Germany aboard a geared vessel. It will now be positioned on Berth 6, where it will support the handling of bulk cargoes including animal feed and gypsum, with future capability for steel coil and other breakbulk cargoes.

This significant investment reflects our continued commitment to customers, future growth and modern port infrastructure, ensuring the Port continues to invest in the equipment and facilities needed for future generations of trade.

One year of solar success at Bristol Port!

It’s been 12 months since solar panels were installed on Shed 3C and the results are in!

In the last year alone, the solar panels have:

🔋 Generated 3.8% of the Port’s total power
🏡 Produced enough energy to power 250 homes for a year
🌳 Delivered the equivalent environmental benefit of planting 4,000 trees
🌍 Helped save 90 tonnes of CO₂ emissions

A great milestone in our ongoing commitment to sustainability and reducing carbon emissions across Port operations.

Bristol Port recently recorded one of its busiest periods in recent years, with 65,534 vehicles discharged through Bristol’s Global Gateway in March, the highest monthly total for vehicle discharges since 2000.

This strong level of activity has continued into April, with four car carriers pictured in dock at the same time, highlighting the scale of operations currently taking place across the Port.

The increase in volume comes at the perfect time, following the completion of Plots 41 and 42 by our Engineering team. This £4.5 million investment has created an additional 5,600 vehicle storage spaces, taking our total vehicle storage capacity to 110,000 spaces.

A fantastic example of teamwork, investment and growth at Bristol Port, strengthening our ability to support customers and handle growing demand efficiently.

We were really proud to support Pathway to Possibilities, a brilliant community careers event hosted Avonmouth C of E Primary School

The event brought together local residents, employers, schools and support organisations to showcase the real opportunities available right here across Avonmouth and Severnside. It created a fantastic space for conversations about careers, apprenticeships and training routes, helping to connect people directly with local opportunities.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along and helped make the day such a success!

Rt Hon. Darren Jones MP for Bristol North West, said: “These interventions from The Bristol Port Company and other local organisations are so important to be able to show people that there are real opportunities for great jobs in and around the Avonmouth area.”

David A J Brown OBE, CEO of The Bristol Port Company said the event was about “putting one foot in front of the other” and helping people take their first steps towards opportunity and highlighted how important it is to keep building strong community connections.

Jessica Peach, Headteacher at Avonmouth C of E Primary School also shared how important it is to work together to inspire young people and families to see what is possible.

We’re proud to be working alongside our partners to help open doors to opportunity in our local community and this is just the beginning!

Yesterday we were proud to support the Happy Avonmouth Day community event at Avonmouth Community Centre!

Our team had a fantastic time showcasing the port and our global gateway, highlighting the wide range of cargo that moves in and out every day. We also shared our future plans for the Bristol Wind Terminal and spoke about our ongoing environmental work.

A special highlight was introducing Docky, our Barn Owl mascot, who was a big hit with the children, many enjoyed colouring him in and taking home a sticker! There was also plenty of excitement around our “Hook a Boat” game, with prizes up for grabs!

The day was filled with sunshine, smiles, Bristol Port socks and a brilliant atmosphere. Thank you to everyone who came along to visit us, we loved being part of such a great community event!
