Our Marine Department recently carried out a debris recovery operation in Avonmouth Dock, helping to maintain safe navigation and protect the marine environment.

The submerged items were identified during a recent hydrographic survey. Our Marine team onboard our multipurpose workboat Graham Robertson, worked with specialist divers from to locate and safely recover two wheelie bins, three aeroplane tyres and two tractor tyres.

Well done to everyone involved in keeping our waters safe and clear, both above and below the surface.

Our Port Operative and Marine apprentices joined forces this week to support our local community at Lawrence Weston Community Farm and they certainly weren’t afraid to get stuck in!

Over two busy days, the team moved 15 tonnes of manure into the pig pen, cleared and levelled out the grounds and filled four skips in total.

The Farm Manager said the apprentices achieved more in two days than they could ever have imagined, a fantastic testament to everyone’s hard work and teamwork.

After all that effort, the team enjoyed some well earned feel good cuddles with the goats and chickens. As you can see, it was a brilliant day at work, with plenty of smiles all round!

Well done to everyone involved. If you’re looking for a local day out, Lawrence Weston Community Farm is well worth a visit! A lovely place to meet the animals, enjoy some fresh air and give your wellbeing a boost.

The end of an eight-year journey.

The Port has welcomed the final aggregate train from Whatley Quarry in support of the construction of EDF 🇬🇧 Hinkley Point C.

Since the first train arrived in May 2018, our teams have unloaded approximately 1.2 million tonnes of aggregate for onward transportation by sea to Hinkley Point C.

Moving this material by rail and sea removed the equivalent of 41,380 lorry journeys from the roads, helping to reduce emissions, road miles and congestion.

We are proud to have worked alongside Heidelberg Materials and our rail partners to support one of Europe’s largest infrastructure projects and contribute to Britain’s low carbon energy future.

Miles Adams, Director of Dry Bulks and Project Cargo, said: “Reaching the end of this eight-year operation is a significant milestone. Thank you to everyone who helped to deliver it safely and successfully.”

A proud moment for our second year Engineering Apprentices!

Yesterday Engineering Director Chris Adams presented Evie Jones, James Dorrell and Cody Winkler with their new mechanical fitter and fabricator welder toolkits!

Ian Russ, Lock Engineering Manager said: “These toolkits will help our apprentices take pride in their work and in the tools of their trade, something we hope they will carry with them throughout their careers. They have all made excellent progress, and I am incredibly proud of them.”

Congratulations to Evie, James and Cody as they reach another important milestone in their apprenticeships!

We are proud to support Sizewell C, the second major nuclear power project of a generation and to play our part in delivering secure, reliable, low-carbon energy for the UK’s future.

🏗️ A new tunnel production facility in Avonmouth has secured planning permission, with up to 400 jobs set to be supported as part of the Sizewell C project.

The facility will manufacture the pre-cast concrete segments and tunnel heads needed to build Sizewell C’s marine tunnels.

🚢 Once complete, they will be transported to Suffolk by rail and sea, helping us meet our commitment to move at least 60% of construction materials this way.

That means fewer lorries travelling on local roads, while bringing the benefits of Sizewell C’s construction activity to communities further afield.

It’s another example of how the benefits, jobs and opportunities created by Sizewell C stretch right across the UK. 🇬🇧

Congratulations go to Josh Warburton and Josh Jordan, who have successfully completed their two-year Marine Apprenticeships at Bristol Port!

Both have gained valuable experience across our marine operations, including working aboard the Port’s craft vessels.

Jack Fryatt, Assistant Haven Master, said: “It has been a privilege to work with both Joshes and watch them develop throughout their apprenticeships. They have bright futures ahead of them in the wheelhouse.”

With this achievement under their belts, they can now continue working towards becoming deckhands and, one day, captains.

Last week, we welcomed two cruise ships to The Bristol Port Company

Saga Cruises Spirit of Adventure arrived at Royal Portbury Dock bringing around 1,000 passengers ready to explore our region. Guests enjoyed day trips to Bristol, Bath, the Cotswolds and Cheddar Gorge before the ship departed at 5.30pm, showcasing Bristol Port as the perfect gateway for a day of exploring.

We were also pleased to welcome Nordstjernen to Avonmouth Dock as part of her 70th-anniversary tour. Passengers also made the most of the call with visits to Bristol and Bath.

Today, on Merchant Navy Day, we are flying the Red Ensign as we recognise the seafarers whose skill, resilience and dedication keep goods moving and connect Bristol with the world.

Many spend long periods away from their families and face challenges that often go unseen.

To all seafarers visiting and working through Bristol Port and to those who have served in the past: thank you.

We are proud to stand with the seafaring community.

The latest phase of work to dismantle Bristol Port’s former coal silos has now been completed!

As the silos stand above operational Network Rail sidings, the Port timed the project to coincide with planned improvement works on the Bristol to Severn Beach railway line.

The upper sections were carefully removed during the railway closure, with the remaining lower sections scheduled for dismantling during another planned maintenance programme in summer 2027.

The project marks an important step towards creating a safer, modern, more efficient and adaptable Port estate.
