Carrying on with our legal themed questions, this week we're looking at
“How long should we actually keep documents?”
In legal work (as with everything else in the field) there isn’t always a simple answer!
Different types of documents come with different retention requirements and in many cases, those timelines are influenced by:
•regulatory guidance
•legal risk
•client expectations
•the potential need to refer back years later
The problem is that keeping everything “just in case” can create clutter and confusion.
But letting things go too early can create risk.
The balance sits somewhere in the middle, with clear policies, defined timelines and confidence in your processes.
Good retention isn’t about keeping more.
It’s about keeping what matters, for the right amount of time, in the right place.
No matter what document type it is, we can build our service around you and help manage items individually rather than as just another customer.
