Friends of Brockenhurst Station Independently and collaboration with partners we seek out implementation funding.

We are one of 100+ station volunteer groups working across the South Western Railway area imagining new and creative ways to improve station spaces and environments.

EXCITING OPPORTUNITY FOR LOCAL ARTISTS TO DISPLAY WORKS IN A COMMUNITY ART GALLERY

Friends of Brockenhurst Station has secured funding through a grant from the (National) Community Rail Network to install a gallery of local art along the fence beside the Station Approach Road. The art would be reproduced on aluminium sheets at no cost to the artist, at A3 size , landscape or portrait and in any medium. The art should have a New Forest, Local/Station , Environmental , Ecological or Sustainability theme although other art will be considered.

Black Bridge

Further to our recent post. Network Rail, the bridge owner., has advised the damage to the footway boards is significant and unfortunately the temporary closure could last some time.

The Right of Way over the bridge is the responsiblity of Hampshire County Council and they will no doubt be following it up.

We have advised Brockenhurst Parish Council who have kindly posted further details on their page.

SWR are making minor timetable changes between Brockenhurst and Weymouth while they.
repair the electrical supply system between Eastleigh and New Milton.

From Monday 3 August, there will be changes to services to and from Bournemouth, Poole and Weymouth:

Services will take longer than usual to travel between Brockenhurst and Weymouth in both directions

Services from Bournemouth, Poole and Weymouth towards London will depart some stations earlier than usual

Services towards Bournemouth, Poole and Weymouth will depart some stations later than usual

Calling patterns will change at some stations, most notably Holton Heath, Wool and Moreton

On the morning of Tuesday 7 July, a large fire broke out at an electrical substation between New Milton and Hinton Admiral.

Trains in this area are powered by a third rail which carries 750 volts of electricity. The fire caused significant damage to the equipment that supplies the third rail, as well as electrical control systems between the substation and our electrical control centre in Eastleigh.

Black Bridge
We queried the closure of Black Bridge with Network Rail week or so ago (the footbridge from East Bank Road passing right over the tracks). Some of the wooden treads are rotten and need replacing. Network Rail are working on a remedial plan, and we hope to have details soon. Comments on Facebook are unlikely to get action and the best course of action is to contact relevant people.

CELEBRATION STATIONS - JUDGEMENT DAY!

A great meeting with the judge from South and South East in Bloom on Saturday afternoon who was here to access our entry in the Celebration Stations event. This is a fun event to celebrate the work of local stations volunteers, who enhance the appearance of their local stations and their immediate surrounding areas.

The initiative focuses primarily on the areas within the station, including station buildings, platforms, nearby car parks, and approaches to the station. Participants are encouraged to create an inviting atmosphere that reflects community pride and environmental stewardship.

Entries are evaluated based on three key elements: the extent of community involvement, a commitment to environmental care, and gardening activities that enhance the overall appearance of the station. Assessors also like to see a range of plants and efforts to reduce the use of natural resources and the effects of climate change.

BROCKENHURST STATION EXIT WAYFINDING
In August last year our application for funding to improve Exit Wayfinding from the station was approved by under their Social Development Fund. We submitted proposals for both the upgrade to the forecourt local map and the installation of complimentary new Exit signs from the Station to Key local destinations. After consultation with who are in the process of updating their trail wayfinding and Council we concluded on modifications and updates to the map and the key destinations to be signed. These were agreed with SWR and whilst FoBS managed the production and installation of the updated map SWR took responsibility for the fabrication, locations and installation of the Exit signs.
We are now pleased to announce that, subject to some minor additions, the Map and most of the Exit signs have now been installed.
We understand that the FE Wayfinding project will be complete by late Spring and we will be proposing to the Parish Council and the Village Trust that some additional wayfinding signs be installed along public rights of way to assist visitors to the Village, arriving by train or bus, to reach their destinations after leaving the station.
This completes another Community Project initiated by FoBS and supported by SWR to enhance and promote Brockenhurst Station as the Gateway and most sustainable way to travel to the New Forest.
