While the next couple of weeks on the East Lancashire Railway are all about Flying Scotsman, our Summer Diesel Gala organisers are busy with preparations for this year's event, which will run from the 2nd - 5th July. Timetables being drafted (with evenings trains expected until 22:27 on Friday and 21:48 on Saturday), plans for FXPs and a Friday morning photo charter being finalised and work with the buffet team ongoing to ensure everyone is fed and watered all weekend. There has been a lot of exciting progress on our diesel locomotive fleet recently including work progressing to return Class 37 37109 to traffic.

Unfortunately Class 40 40106 will not now be taking part in this year's event. The locomotive is currently having contract body work and a repaint which is taking longer than originally envisaged with additional work on the roof seals the to ensure the locomotive returns in the best possible and water tight condition (looking as it did at the Rainhill cavalcade in 1980).

Passengers who had booked for the late Friday afternoon brake van ride behind 40106 will be contacted to let them know this news. For the moment the 16:50 brake van ride is being marked as TBA with an announcement of motive power nearer the event (we have exciting plans for an alternative loco for the turn depending on locos returning to traffic).
