Christchurch Carnival with all the wee ones! What a great time 🤘
🎪 Max’s first ever time on the sticky wall - great fun, cleverly hidden as a home schooling scientific experiment 😉
🍾 Way too many bottles won on the charity tombola.
🇹🇭 massive portions of yummy Thai food and iced tea.
🎸 The Green Day Experience were genuinely brilliant!

🧨 Firework display cancelled for obvious reasons which was a shame ❌

🎠🎪🎡🎟️ Still another day of the Carnival today if you live anywhere near or are on holiday down here at the moment!

Another EDT booked! This one’s a bit different though… we’ve got another mum and son coming with us because someone told them we can show them how it’s done - like we’re professionals 😂 But challenge accepted and the pressure is now on to plan a perfect trip with no mishaps and a day full of fun and adventure 😅

So, you lovely people… where in Cork is a must visit on a day trip?

Rewind 11 years to the day… when Max was less than 2 years old, had much shorter hair and I was a slimmer version of myself!

We have a trip booked to Barcelona coming up soon but it’s just occurred to me that Max and I have actually been before. A long time ago and only for a few hours. We don’t get to see much and Max definitely doesn’t remember any of it so it’ll be good to get back there and refresh our memories!

Who recognises the beach by the hotel we were staying in when we did our day trip to Barcelona?!

I’m not sure what’s prompted me to reminisce over this trip this morning, but I was suddenly taken back to Llangollen and the Pontcysyllte Aquaduct… and look at Max’s braids! The longest aqueduct in Britain and the highest aqueduct in the world! In 2009 it was granted UNESCO world heritage status.

This was just over a year ago but feels like a life time ago. I absolutely love North Wales. The scenery is beautiful and there is so much to do. I would love to get back there when we can and explore some more - we definitely will at some point!

If you’ve come to the internet to get some good pictures of the solar eclipse, you can probably scroll 2 posts up or down from this one and find some fantastic photos and videos… our photos, I promise you, are the most rubbish… but 10/10 for effort 😂

Max made a pin hole camera out of a cereal box. It took him longer to chose the box that he was going to cut up than it normally takes him to decide which cereal he’s actually going to eat… I haven’t broken it to him yet that the cereal box can now go back into the cupboard to contain cereal again 🤣🤣

Well, it wasn’t life-changing or earth moving stuff, but the pinhole camera did work, and we did get to see the eclipse!

Did anyone else manage to get any better pictures?

I wished I’d got a filter for my camera in hindsight.

Most of the souvenirs in your typical souvenir shops are mass-produced, cheap rubbish and not made anywhere near the country you’re buying it in, let alone the town or city.

Of course if you collect magnets, shot glasses, coasters or mugs with place names and these items are going into your prized collection then that is absolutely fine but more often than not, these items get bought and just get shoved to the back of a drawer, sit around gathering dust or eventually just get binned.

Get something genuinely local, buy something you genuinely need or something you will actually use regularly. It doesn’t have to be plastered with 🇪🇸Barcelona 🇪🇸 or 🇬🇷 I love Greece 🇬🇷 because it will always remind you of your travels anyway and bring back the memories that you treasure so much.

If you had just 24 hours in Edinburgh on a budget, where would you go?

I’m so excited about taking Max to Edinburgh on our multistop trip. My Grandad was from Edinburgh and a huge influence in my life until he died when I was only 15. Going back there reminds me of him and makes me feel close to him but I haven’t been there in over a decade now since I had no family left to visit.

Here’s a picture of my daughter aged 2 next to a piper outside Prince’s Street Gardens. If you’ve been following for a while you’ll know she’s now 21!

🌅 Who get’s up to see the sunrise when you’re away?
Show me your holiday sunrise photos and tell me where and when! Getting out of bed early can be painful but scenes like this really make up for it 😍

Well I really didn’t think the budget, educational travels of my 12 year old and I would be of such interest to so many people but I’m hugely excited to announce that we hit 1000 followers on our page this week… thank you!

For some reason, instagram is trailing behind which I think is because a lot of our posts are more info/text based. But if you’re on insta and if you’ve got friends that use instagram but not facebook like I do, please do find us and share us!

Finally I’d like to thank the sad trolls who very quickly turned on one of my posts last week - Thanks to them the post went viral and found more of the people who would genuinely like to follow us, so for that I am grateful 😂 even if we had to put up with our phones pinging with their miserable and mostly plain & nasty rubbish every minute for 24 hours!

Welcome to all our new followers, and thank you to each and every one of you for your interest and support!

Lucie & Max ✈️ ✌️
